So, there’s a group I’m a member of called The Arthurian Order of Avalon — we perform at the local medieval fair, and do other stuff besides. Yesterday, we held our Whiteheart Tournament, a tournament open to the populace (we have another tournament, Greenbriar, that’s only open to the knighthood). We competed in fencing, archery, boffer fighting, backgammon, and a spear course.
Completely unexpectedly, I very nearly won. I came in first in the spear course (by half a second) and second in backgammon, giving me a total of five points and third place. Had I won backgammon instead, I would’ve been tied for first.
Yesterday evening, though, was kinda frustrating. We were going to be starting Tex Murphy: Overseer on Throne of Games (see sig), but for reasons not entirely known, the game began freezing every couple of minutes. Additionally, on reexamination of the footage, somehow XSplit was failing to capture a lot of what was going on in the game — cutscenes, item examination, etc. I guess that’s Windows 95 programming for you… It’s a shame, because we were so looking forward to it, we’d even gone so far as to devise a drinking game to enjoy.
So instead, to fill the time, we played VVVVVV. Everybody else tried to make a game to take a drink whenever I died…but that didn’t last very long. Wound up beating it in about an hour and a half, getting 16 trinkets and dying a little over 400 times.
Examining the situation later, I discovered that, with nothing else running, there were no problems playing Overseer. Playing with XSplit, I didn’t get freezing problems, either, but there were still some issues capturing everything that happened. Strangely, my IRC client caused the game to freeze a couple times, but not nearly as much as it seemed to be before. I still need to test if the wireless mouse and keyboard have any impact on that, as well, and try and find some way of successfully capturing everything that goes on in the game.
