I wrote the Earthbound Scrapbook in 2010, posting each chapter to my blog separately.

To celebrate SummerBound and EB’s 20th anniversary, I collected those posts here into a single novella. Clocking in at 125 pages of stories and photography that hearken back to the original strategy guide, I view the Earthbound Scrapbook as a companion to your EB play through. Each entry is from the viewpoint of a different EB character, ranging from the obvious through the obscure, from the humorous to the poignant – just like Earthbound itself!

Please give it a read and get ready for sizzlin’ EB summer!

Another dull summer afternoon.

I was sitting in my room with nothing to do. I wiped the sweat off of my forehead. The thermometer on my window read 96 degrees. I was sweating everywhere and decided that I have had enough of this inferno environment. To accommodate the unbearable heat, I cranked up the AC a little, in the hallway, and went back into my room while closing the door. I turned on my fan to full blast, turning my room into a freezer. Finding myself looking out my window for a while, waiting for something interesting to happen, I saw was the usual. People shopping, cars, cops, and the occasional ice cream truck.

I heard a muffled sound that, I assumed, was coming from downstairs. I hear it, the sound stops. I hear it, the sound stops. "What the heck could that be?" I thought to myself, walking towards my door. I opened my door and the moment I did, I realized it was just the phone ringing. "Probably just an ad. I hate when they call." I thought, about to shut my door again. But curiosity got the best of me. I went downstairs and picked up the phone. "Talk to me." I said in a low voice, expecting an advertisement.

"Ness, Ness!" I heard in a familiar, thrilled tone.

"It’s me Jeff! Paula, Poo and I are in Summers for a vacation. It isn’t too hot outside so why not hang out with us? Got to go Ness, Poo wants me to go into the ocean. I’ll see you here if you come!"

"Wait!" I yelled into the phone. "You’re all there in Summers. Why wasn’t invited earlier?" I asked, feeling a bit miffed.

"Oh, we thought you would be busy. I mean, don’t you have a lot of school work to catch up on? We had this vacation day planned out for a while. I called a month ago. Tracy picked up and said you had a truckload of homework to catch up on." Jeff explained.

"Well I did most of my homework. Yeah, I’ll come. How hot is it outside?" I asked.

"Around 101 degrees. Anyway, see ya here!"

Beeep. I hung up the phone and ran upstairs to throw on my swim trunks. I grabbed my Franklin Badge and Receiver Phone as well just in case and stuffed them into my pockets. I didn’t really care that Jeff invited last minute. As long as I’m going, I’m ecstatic. My mother came into my room with a load of laundry.

"Ness honey, where are you going with your swim trunks on?" she asked me curiously, hands on her hips.

"Mom, Jeff invited me to go to Summers because all of my friends are there on vacation. Can I go? It’ll be like a nice family reunion!"

Mom responded sarcastically. "Alright honey, you may go. Even if I say no, you’ll probably sneak out through your window."

"Thanks. I’ll be back by the end of the day. Bye Mom!" I yelled as I was running downstairs.

"Have fun sweetie! Don’t forget when you get home, you’re doing the laundry!" Mom snapped.

I left my home, at 3:00, and went into the streets of Onett where I had plenty of room to teleport. I used PSI Teleport α to teleport to Summers. When I arrived in the paradise, I couldn’t get over how great it felt outside in beautiful Summers. All I could do was feel the cool sea breeze and inhale that sweet, sweet warm air. The sound of seagulls really made me feel all warm and tingly inside. Before I headed down to the beach, I decided to the food market and buy a few snacks. On my way to the market, a tall blonde woman greeted me.

"Welcome to Summers. Hope you enjoy your stay." She said with a cordial smile on her face while handing me a pamphlet.

"Thank you." I replied with a matching smile.

I looked through the pamphlet as I was nearing the food market. It just showed events that would be going on throughout the week and restaurants. When I walked in the market, I was relieved to feel the air conditioned atmosphere. The sudden change in temperature felt great. I read the price tag for a Picnic Lunch. $24. "That’s reasonable." I thought to myself. I bought some water bottles too and I was ready to meet up with everybody. Immediately after I exited the food market, I was tackled by the hot weather. People were just meandering the streets while my short self had to walk around everyone. I walked down the staircase leading to the beach.

Looking around, my eyes were treated to a beautiful serene landscape. I felt so relaxed when my bare feet made contact with the hot sand. Looking forward, I saw a breathtaking sea of green. The sound of the waves crashing made me feel at utopia. I walked for a little, each step feeling more and more relaxing. I looked up. Not a single cloud in sight. Lots of people were sunbathing. I even saw this guy who was tanning his palms. Finding everyone on the disorienting beach was a nuisance. Luckily, I eventually located Paula sitting down, alone, in a chair. She was wearing a blue bikini.

She noticed me. "Ness, you made it!" she squealed.

"Yeah, the weather really feels swell out here. I brought snacks too by the way." I said with a big smile. I was glad to see Paula again. I put the Picnic Lunch down and placed the Receiver Phone in the basket.

"Oh you didn’t have to spend your money. Anyway, Jeff and Poo went to go get some Magic Cake because the lifeguards just told everyone to get out of the water. Yup, that lady is in business again!" Paula said with excitement in her eyes.

"Nice, I better go try the Magic Cake later and see if anything changed. I hated it last time." I chucked.

"Nobody is allowed in the ocean for some reason. The lifeguards aren’t saying anything. It’s "top secret" apparently. Something suspicious is happening." Paula explained, looking worried. She didn’t acknowledge my joke because, I could tell, she was having a nervous breakdown. That was a quick mood change.

I looked forward and noticed that the ocean waves were becoming rougher. I felt the wind becoming faster.

"Everyone, you must stay out of the ocean until we are cleared to send you back in!" A lifeguard shouted into her megaphone.

"Why, what’s happening?" A surfer asked, looking pretty angry.

"Nothing, nothing, just be patient. You’ll get back in the ocean soon." The lifeguard responded.

I could sense that something vile was approaching the shore which made me feel uneasy. My heart was pounding out of my chest. In a small area of the ocean, there were bubbles forming and popping like soda when you pour it.

Eventually, the ocean started to violently bubble in that secluded area.

"What is that?" I questioned, walking towards the once peaceful ocean. My feet are burning and turning red because of the scorching sand.

Jeff and Poo returned, mouths stuffed with Magic Cake, and were looking at the bubbling ocean too with big, fearful eyes. Jeff was sporting his usual school uniform with a side of pit stains while Poo had his shirt off and six pack out.

The ocean looked like a ton of children playing with bubbles. There was so many of those little green spheres huddled together in the ocean.

The Kraken sprung out of the water minutes later. The moment I saw it, I couldn’t move because I was in shock.

"EVERYONE, EXIT THE BEACH IMMEDIATELY! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! EXIT THE BEACH IMMEDIATELY!" A lifeguard screamed into a megaphone. The lifeguard’s skin became pale. The beast splashed water everywhere.

"The Kraken is going down!" I yelled.

The Kraken used Crash Boom Bang resulting in all of the people sprinting off of the beach. On e of the lightning bolts was about to hit a little kid but I jumped in front of him while holding the Franklin Badge in my hands. The lightning reflected back to the Kraken and it roared so loud that the ground began to shake.

"Thank you mister." The kid muttered, running off the beach.

"UGH, YOU’RE GOING TO DIE, KRAKEN!" Poo yelled in a livid tone, covering his ears from the roaring.

The battle began with the four of us dodging its attacks, mostly just its fire. Jeff ran back to the towels and opened up his suitcase. He took out some bottle rockets.

"I thought we killed this thing with the captain!" Jeff yelled anxiously while firing the bottle rockets.

Most of the rockets missed but one of them hit the Kraken it the face. Jeff ran back to us.

When we had our chance to attack, I used PSI Rockin Ω, Paula used PSI Freeze Ω, Jeff fired his Heavy Bazooka, and Poo used PSI Starstorm Ω.

The Kraken looked severely damaged but was still moving.

"It survived all those attacks?" I questioned. "If I could just land one more PSI Rockin on it, it’ll surely go down!" I thought to myself with mild trepidation.

I’m having an adrenaline rush. I was ready to take down this beast once and for all!

The Kraken roared very loudly and spit out a slipper that hit Poo in his man parts.

"Hey, isn’t that one of the Captain’s slippers that he threw at the Kraken?" Paula asked.

Poo sat on the ground, moaning.

"COME ON POO THIS IS NO TIME TO BE RESTING!!!" Paula screamed.

It was the first time I ever heard Paula raise her voice.

"Right!" Poo replied.

He then took out the Sword of King and started slashing away at the beast. The Kraken began rapidly spitting fire everywhere but we all managed to dodge it. I finally used PSI Rockin Ω again.

"The Kraken couldn’t grasp the true form of Ness!" I thought to myself in a heroic voice.

It was a rough fight due to all the fire the Kraken spit at us but we got the job done.

The four of us just took it easy on our backs at the shoreline, out of breath. The beast was slowly sinking. We all wondered why the Kraken returned after we killed it on our way to Scaraba. It couldn’t of been a different Kraken though because it had one of the Captain’s slippers. Anyway, we destroyed it! As the Kraken was going down in defeat, it spit again and another slipper nailed Poo in the head. "My head!" Poo moaned.

A lifeguard came up to us.

"Wow. nice work kids. Yeah, there were a lot of Kraken sightings the last few days and it seemed pretty obvious it was arriving today." He explained. "Thanks." He said, sounding relieved. "The reason we didn’t tell everyone that we knew about the Kraken was because nobody would believe us, and it sounds so silly." The lifeguard scratched his beard and began walking back to his lifeguard tower.

"It should be dead for good this time. Maybe on the boat we just knocked it out. I ponder why it would come to these shallow waters." Jeff said, out of breath.

"Ugh, this was supposed to be a time of relaxation. While Summers is beautiful, it certainly isn’t safe." I said, my voice as blue as the clear sky.

"The fight is over now, we can relax." Paula snapped.

All four of us sat there and took in the warm weather. The waves would race towards us, cover our legs, and then would calmly return into the aqua field. It was such a relaxing day until the Kraken emerged and attacked. Poo was rubbing his head while mumbling, ow.

"That hurt, the Kraken hit me right in the head with that slipper. I’m going to go to the hotel and get some ice." Poo said while running towards the hotel. He turned around. "Be right back!" he yelled in a raspy voice and continued to sprint for the hotel.

Paula, Jeff and I sat there looking at the beautiful ocean. People eventually returned to the beach and started to relax again.

Jeff stood up after a few minutes and said, trembling, "I got to go use the lavatory, I’ll b-b-be back soon! M-man listening to the sound of the waves really makes you got t-to go huh?" He ran off, clutching his bladder.

Finally, Paula and I were alone again.

"Remember after we saved the world and I dropped you off at your house you said you wanted to tell me something?" I asked in my sexy voice (yes, I’ve got one!)

"Oh." Paula said, giggling. "I remember. I love you... Ness. That feels good to finally get off my chest." She blushed.

We slowly leaned in for a kiss but I looked in my peripheral vision to see a blurry mix of yellow and black. I turn my to the right, got a sweet kiss from Paula on the cheek, and Picky was standing right in front of us.

"Oh, pardon me Ness. I didn’t know you were such a ladies man. Anyway, my family and I are worried about Pokey’s whereabouts. Do you know anything about where he could be?"

I shrugged.

"Wait a second... how did you know I was in Summers, in fact, how did you even get here?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh, I just asked your mother where you were. She said in Summers with some friends. I had my mother drive me to Fourside because Pokey told me of a man who has helicopters for free! So I found Mr. Monotoli, the man Pokey told me about, and asked him if he could take me to Summers in one of his ’copters. He brought me to the 48th floor and flew me here in a yellow helicopter with the words BACK-UP spray painted on it. Good thing I found you though, I’ve been searching this beach forever looking for you. The sand is so hot; it feels like a big oven." Picky looked down, and picked up a hand full of sand.

"YIPES! THIS IS HOT! I can’t believe how fast the sand heats up!" Picky yelled.

"Uhh Picky, you do realize this is wet sand right?" I said, on the verge of hysterically laughing.

"Owww... L-L-Listen to what I’ve go to say! There is a big, BIG problem at hand. Where could Pokey be? I wouldn’t have flew out here if I knew you would say I don’t know so please... tell me anything you know!" Picky said with a glass shattering shriek.

"I do know something but can’t you see I’m busy here? I’ll let you know later just hang out here on the beach for a while. It’s really nice out. Well, run along now." I told Picky sternly.

"Fine, meet me in Toto at 5. Tell me everything you know!" Picky ran off. I felt bad about making him worry.

"Wait a second... that’s the younger brother of the chubby kid who kidnapped me? He seems a lot more gentle than his older brother that’s for sure." Paula said, flabbergasted.

Paula and I walked back up to where we had our things. We went onto our towels.

She laid back in the sun, forgetting about our special moment. I didn’t mind. I put some of Paula’s suntan lotion on my body and relaxed, taking in the sun’s rays. With my eyes shut, all you could hear was the waves crashing, people screaming, and the wind. A few minutes later, I heard a familiar ringing sound coming from the picnic basket. Click.

"Hey Ness, Jeff here. I checked up on Poo. He’s resting up in the hotel right now, taking a nap. I’m at the Dinosaur Museum if you or Paula need me. I’ll talk to you later." Click Beeep.

I put the receiver phone back down and Paula asked "Who was it?"

"Just Jeff saying Poo was taking a nap in the hotel and he was in the Dinosaur Museum."

We sat there, awkwardly, getting tans. We didn’t say anything to each other. I looked straight ahead. The ocean was packed with people! There were surfers everywhere. People were driving their boats and, looking up a little, hot air balloons filled parts of the clear sky.

About 15 minutes passed. I struggled at first but I built up the courage to tell Paula, in my seductive voice, "Hey Paula, you got something on your lips." She smiled and blushed, twirling her.

We leaned in to kiss again. We were about to kiss but Jeff screamed our names.

Jeff screamed. "HEY GUYS!!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME? COME TRY THESE HOT DOGS THEY’RE AMAZING!!!"

It was always annoying when Jeff yelled because every other world he said, his voice would crack.

"Radical!" Paula said joyfully. "I’m in the mood for a hot dog on a hot summer day. Come on Ness, let’s go!"

Paula ran towards Jeff.

"COMING!" I yelled.

I opened the picnic lunch and grabbed the Receiver Phone and my wallet while putting the Franklin Badge away. Why does everyone got to spoil the mood? Jeff couldn’t stand still. He went from the bathroom, dinosaur museum, and hotdog stand in about 30 minutes. Anyways, we got up to the hot dog stand and it was $8.00 for a hot dog. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

When we sat down at a table, I drenched my hot dog in ketchup, just the way I like it. The delectable scent of the hot dog and the fresh air mixed together in such a wonderful way that it filled my nose with joy. Where we were sitting, we had a great view of the beach. The ocean looked magnificent! I always stared at the horizon line for some reason because I just think it’s cool how it appears the sky and water meet. I took a bite of my delicious smelling hot dog. My taste buds were jumping for joy when it touched my mouth.

"So... what do you guys think of the Stoic Club turning into the truck shop?" Paula asked.

"Well, to be frank, it does seem pretty arbitrary because how does a building that small have the capacity to become a truck shop?" Jeff wondered.

"I don’t know, it’s weird. I called the place with the Stoic Club number. They said I can come on in. When I reached the door, a voice on the other side said "no kids allowed" or something like that." I explained, taking bites out of my hot dog.

Jeff suddenly changed the subject. "Man, that was a pretty tough fight with the Kraken. I have a theory of why it came to the shallow waters. Care to hear it?" he asked, implying he wants us to listen.

"Yeah sure." Paula and I both said at the same time. We laughed.

"Alright, here goes. Well remember when the captain said that no ship has ever made it passed the Kraken? Well, our ship did. That must’ve been the Kraken’s first defeat. Maybe instead of killing it, we just knocked it out. When it regained consciousness, it finally tasted defeat and wanted revenge on us. I don’t know how it knew we were all going to beach on the beach this specific day, but we schooled the damn thing again. I’m not sure if it’s dead now but... maybe? I’m just glad we saved all of those people." Jeff explained.

"Yeah, how odd that the Kraken survived. I’d say you’re theory is believable. With our combined strengths we were able to take down the beast!" Paula exclaimed.

After we finished our meals, we just sat at the table looking at the beach. I looked over at one of the clocks on the sidewalk, squinting.

"Oh crap, it’s 5:30 already?! I was supposed to meet Picky a half an hour ago in Toto. I’ll meet up with you guys later! If you guys are going to do anything exciting please call me on my Receiver Phone. Bye!"

I ran as fast as I could to Toto. There, Picky was waiting for me. He was petting one of the cats.

"There you are, Ness. Don’t you just love this hot summer air? It makes me so cheerful. Anyway, back to what I needed you for. So, what do you know about my brother?" Picky asked frantically, shaking.

"Well, he said that he was going to escape into a new era. Yes, it may sound far-fetched but your brother time traveled into the future. I’m sorry but I don’t think he’s returning." I explained.

"My family isn’t going to buy that... Don’t you have any other story you could make up on the spot so I don’t get yelled at? I can’t believe he’s gone!" Picky yelled.

"Sorry Picky, I got nothing. Well, I better get going. Listen, I’ll drop by tomorrow and explain the whole situation to your family alright? See you later." I said, in hopes of reassuring him. I began to walk away.

"WAAIT NESS YOU CAN’T LEAVE!" Picky screamed. I turn around, annoyed. "Mr. Monotoli left; I have no way of getting back..." Picky looked miserable.

"Don’t sweat it kiddo, you can hang out with my friends for a while. Come on, let’s go back to the beach. But before we go, why did you want to speak to me about this in Toto?"

"Oh, that’s because a lot of people might know my older brother and would want to get me in trouble if they heard us. There ain’t a lot of people here so it’s the perfect place. Also, the sea looks great over here" Picky explained.

"Uh, alright whatever." I responded.

"Let’s go to da beach dawg!" Picky said, with a wide smile. I was glad to comfort him.

I shook my head "Never say that again." I smiled.

Picky and I walked back to the beach. It was still a tad hot outside so once I reached the somewhat hot sand, I sprinted to the ocean. I went a bit far in the ocean and kneeled to only my head was visible. "Ah." I mumbled to myself. The ocean cooled me off and man did it feel great! I was as cool as a cucumber! I walked around a bit in the ocean with my head still sticking out. Whenever a wave came, I jumped. There was a ginormous wave approaching me from the distance. It was probably 15 Mr. Saturns tall. When the monstrous wave was about to hit me, I jumped and I slid right up the wave, only to fall into the water. I kept doing this with each wave that came. After a while of playing in the waves, I noticed Picky was sitting on the beach, alone. I wanted to keep him company so I rode one of the waves back to shore. When I was walking towards Picky, I saw the rest of the gang strolling on the beach. I signaled them towards me.

For the rest of the day, all five of us enjoyed the great summer weather. Poo was making a sandcastle replica of Dalaam. All five of us helped him out. Jeff would run down to where the wet sand was, got the wet sand in a bucket, and would run back up. I would then take the wet sand and shape it into an object. Paula would take the shape and add detail. Picky would make sure nothing would fall apart. Poo would then take the object and placed it somewhere in the sand Dalaam. We all had a lot of fun with that activity because it was a unbelievable how perfect the sculpture turned out. After that, we all decided to eat the Picnic Lunch I bought in celebration of our marvelous sculpture.

"I went to a restaurant today and I got some Pasta di Summers. I’ll eat the leftovers I saved." Picky said, ready to chow down his meal.

He took a bite and had a face of disgust. "Ewwww! I got sand all over my pasta and it tastes all chunky now!" Picky said, his face as green as the ocean.

He wrapped it up and put it away.

"Yuck" Picky said while he was taking sand out of his mouth. "Remind me to never eat right after I played in sand" He moaned.

I looked over towards the ocean. It was calm and gentle. The waves weren’t as big as they were during the day. I got up and walked over towards the ocean. When I reached the ocean, I just closed my eyes and listened to the sound of the waves for about five minutes. Man, Summers is paradise, a dream come true for many! The seagulls, the sand, the ocean, the food. I loved every bit of this place. The way Paula, Jeff, Poo and I took down the Kraken made me realize that not only did we have fun doing it, we saved the people who could return and have fun as well. Today I learned that summer is an amazing season which can only be enjoyed with the people you love. I opened my eyes and walked back up to where we were sitting. It was getting windy outside and I was shivering. It was 9:00 and we were all just watching the ocean, not saying a word to each other.

It was now 9:30. "Alright everyone, I better get going and return to my kingdom. I shall bring this medal home in honor of my flexibility. PSI Farewell!" Poo said as he disappeared while in gust of wind. "Later everyone, nice seeing you again! I haven’t had this much fun in a while!" Jeff said with a tear rolling down his face and a smile from ear to ear. Jeff took out a remote, pushed a red button and, in seconds, the Sky Runner came out of nowhere. He flew away. Paula and I looked at the sunset, and shared a kiss.

"Wow, my older brother could never get any woman! You’re a real lucky one Ness!" Picky said with a big smile on his face.

"Heh heh. I’ll take you both home." I replied with a smirk, embarrassed.

I took one last look at the ocean before leaving. I smiled. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my life. I heard a clicking sound followed by a flash. I turned around and saw a man spin and fly into the sky.

"That guy looks familiar." I thought. I forgot that guy. What was his name? Pickleman? Whatever, it didn’t matter.

"Everyone ready?" I asked.

They nodded.

I was about to use PSI Teleport ß, but then I heard "Hang on Ness! Allow me." from Picky.

"Oh sacred gods of this world! Teleport me and my friends to Onett! I cast the spell, TELEPORTITUS!" Picky yelled.

I face palmed, Paula was laughing. Picky’s face turned as red as the sauce on Pasta di Summers. We teleported

We teleported to Onett first where I dropped off Picky. "One of the perks of having hair that covers your eyes is not getting watery eyes from the sun when looking up on a hot and sunny day like today!" Picky shouted while running inside his house. "Uh alright?" I responded, not knowing how to reply to that. Paula and I walked to Twoson together. We reached her home.

"Thank you for a great time today Ness."

When I got home, I ran upstairs and opened my door. My smile quickly dissolved into a frown when I saw a big pile of laundry on my bed.

"Now do the laundry like I told you!" Mom said closing the door, maniacally laughing.

I turned on my fan and sat there folding clothes. A bit of a smile shined down on my face. I never knew how much of a blast summer could be.

“Another wonderful day in Summers”
The sun shinning ever so bright,
we go to the beach avoiding a fight,
relaxing in the sun is oh so nice,
maybe I’ll grab a magic cake slice,
later we’ll set sail,
and maybe we’ll see something big as a whale,
but for now we just enjoy the cool sea gale.

I am the Doctor. I am a 2000 year old time traveler and, I’ve just had a curious encounter. I was making a pit stop near a temporal rift so the TARDIS can refuel, when I met a small group of children. Three of them demonstrated they had psychic abilities, and the last one made it very clear he was extremely intelligent. I could tell by the looks in their eyes, that they had seen horrible, terrible, and all around awfully scary things. I asked them what had happened, and they told me. Their story was incredible. Eight sanctuary locations, hyper-intelligent alien races, corrupt cops, mad cults, talking monkeys, and even time travel! They saw it all; way too much for children their age.

So I did the thing any sensible adult would do.

I simply asked,

“You want to see more?”

I call this one…. Bold and brash….

I wrote a short story tonight called Thirst for Adventure. It involves the captain from Toto and his Magic Cake making wife. It’s attached as a word document, but let me know if it needs to be in a different format. I hope everyone reading enjoys it!

Edit: I attached a new version which I reviewed when it wasn’t 3:00 am. If you already gave it a read, consider looking it over again and be amazed at the absence of sleepy typos!

Hope you guys like this, I’m not the best at this kind of thing but I wanted to give it a shot so, well, here is my poem

A Map for a Summer
It is almost here, the best time of the year
When we can go on a quest and escape from school’s desks
Traveling to far off lands and shores of shining sands,
Playing pretend with brand new best friends
Having pick-nick lunches in sweltering summers
And when all seems lost we’ll dust ourselves off
And continue the fun it still being summer

Just who the hell do you think I am?

Here’s my submission. It’s a crazy one. Writing isn’t really my forte, but I figured I’d give it a shot. No harm, no foul, and whatnot.

Welp, there’s no point in not trying….

As the sun bears down like dungeon man, I feel quite sweaty

At the beaches of Summers, the air carries the scent of hot dog buns and burgers, making the flowing air wheaty

On the golden sands of Scaraba, the air perfumes itself with the aroma of kabob and fried croquettes, like a rajastani women putting on airs of cardamon, chole, and cinnamon, making the scent akin to that of a marinade that is full and meaty.

Near the shores of Winter, the snow, that icy grip of Old Winters hand, has finally melted, like zombie posessors in the midst of radiant light, to give way to murky soil and slushy water, the essence of the land.

At the brackish shores of Fourside, the air stings with the smell of petrol, like a oil cartel’s den, as a group of people, clad in summer clothes, listen to the intoxicating tune of a rowdy band.

And so, four kids plunge into the water, wishing for their troubles, those of desks and pens, those of friends and foe, and those of school and house, to melt like ice in a cup, as they become one with the water and land.

Well it’s more of a competition since there are winners, so I don’t think plot is required but I would guess that it is recommended. I’ll write up something if I think of anything, I’m not much of a story writer though.

Does our writing submissions have to have a story and plot? Or can it just be about a couple of friends hanging out in the summertime?

I’d say that friends hanging out is a plot, at least in my mind. I think it’d be considered a “Slice of Life” story. As long as the story is about something, i.e. “Tim goes to the store. Tim buys some ice cream. Tim eats the ice cream. The end.”

idk, make my rank something about the Shenmue's sock drawer

Not every story has to be an epic. It can certainly be part of the slice-of-life genre, so long as it has to do with EarthBound.

This category from my experience has never been strictly stories. Write haiku, write song lyrics, write a recipe. I’d say just capture the essence of the season and that of EarthBound. Have fun!

Don’t get discouraged if you don’t want to work within the confines of an established medium or style. If you have a fan work for any of these categories, by all means share it.

It doesn’t have to check all of the usual boxes. Heck, EarthBound itself didn’t.

Also Bart has a subplot about Giygas or something.

That was the intent, yes. You can write pretty much whatever you like, but be aware that the judges will very likely be looking at which submissions best address the summer theme (among other criteria of course).

After looking over the submissions, we’ve been seeing a lot that haven’t been made specifically for SummerBound, which is what these threads are all about! So I’ve amended the opening post of each thread with this new notice:

For your submission to be valid it must have been created AFTER the SummerBound announcement made last Wednesday, June 3rd.

Please make new art! We’ve also decided that to be valid your submissions can be Summer-y OR EarthBound related, or both! We’ll be picking one piece from each submission thread that we feel best invokes the feelings of summer at the end of the funfest.

Have fun!

Quick question! …OK, maybe it’s not going to be very quick… and it’s two or three questions…

Is there a length limit to submissions? Because I’m planning quite a big one, and if things go well, there’ll be 4 chapters to it.

Secondly, is it OK to use Beginnings characters (Mother 1 characters) even if it’s in an Earthbound setting? Just checking, you can never be too sure.

Lastly, if I can post something with multiple chapters, can I post them here one at a time as long as they’re all out by the deadline? Of course I plan on just editing the same post over and over, updating for each chapter, instead of making a new post for each one. But if that’s not an option, I can just post them all at once when they’re all done.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Don’t be that guy. I think it’s fair to count it as one, unified work, and I don’t actually see the advantage of posting each chapter as a different entry in any way. You’re being judged on the quality of your work, not the quantity of it.

Alright, got my submission ready. Ahem. ‘Having known only the cold white haze of winter and Winters, Jeff Andonuts continues his travels with Ness and Paula to their next destination – Summers, a country as foreign to Jeff as can be.’

From Winters to Summers

Winter was all he had ever known. The cold nights and forests blanketed in white formed the basis for his understanding of weather. Scientifically, of course, he knew that there were other seasons and other climates, but he had never truly experienced them before. To say he didn’t know what to expect when the Sky Runner arrived in Summers would be an understatement. He almost didn’t want to look out of the porthole as they flew steadily towards the sunny country. Would summer be as he’d envisioned it back at Snow Wood when he’d read stories in books, or would it be nothing like what he’d thought? He wasn’t sure if he wanted to find the answer. Paula and Ness didn’t seem to notice his anxiety as they sat with their faces pressed against the porthole, talking to each other about the sights that flew by. Ness pointed excitedly out the window to what Paula exclaimed was a pod of whales in the ocean coming up to breach. Jeff did his best to try and ignore their excitement, as it only served to make him more nervous. Autumn had been what he’d imagined in Threed and Fourside, so who’s to summer wouldn’t be any different? He took a deep breath and focused himself on piloting the Sky Runner. The navigation beacon was starting to ‘ping’ faintly, so he knew they were approaching their destination. He adjusted his glasses and wiped the sweat from his forehead with the sleeve of his jacket. It’s just a season. It’s not that important, it’s not that scary, it’s just something you’ve never experienced. Calm down and focus.

The local sun-bathers of Summers were startled by the sudden appearance of a strange metallic craft that wobbled in the sky, zooming over their beaches and waves until it came to a stop in mid-air and began to land. A sudden jerk of movement from inside the craft sent it plummeting to the ground, where it crashed into a heap of broken metal and debris. From the debris, three children emerged, wiping the soot off of their clothes as two of them looked around excitedly, while the third kept his gaze downward, eyes almost closed.

You shouldn’t be this afraid of a season. Just look at the sky, just look up period. You’re better then this, you have friends now. You don’t have to be afraid that it won’t meet your expectations, just take it for what it is. He slowly lifted his head and opened his eyes. The bright sun made him close them again almost immediately, but after squinting for a minute or two, his eyes adjusted to the light. He looked around and left behind every bit of anxiety he’d had about summer. The sandy beaches of Summers stretched out before him, giving way to the stone sidewalks of the city, which radiated warmth from its pastel colored buildings and murals of palm trees. He turned around to see the ocean stretching out forever and the waves lapping at the shore in a steady rhythm that helped to calm him. The sun shone brilliantly on the sand and the palm trees that lined the beach and he could feel the warm rays on his skin. Ness and Paula were excited as well, Ness already taking off his shoes to go for a swim. Paula was sitting in the sand, enjoying the feeling of the wind in her hair and the warm sand beneath her. Jeff simply stood where he was and let it all sink in. It was certainly different from the cold, overcast eternal winter back in Winters, as he’d expected it, but the combination of sights, sounds and feeling was more then he’d ever anticipated. He found himself laughing as he pulled his shoes off and discarded his jacket and shirt, jumping into the water with Ness. The water was warm and inviting and the smell of the ocean filled his nostrils as he splashed in the surf. Ness was smiling broadly, and Jeff found himself following suit as he dove under the water. The water was clear and the sun lit up the sand beneath the waves, and Jeff was fascinated by the various bits and pieces of underwater life and debris, shells and small fish gathering in the shallows. He scooped up a small handful of the shells and surfaced, taking in a breath of warm, sea air. He swam back to the beach and walked over to where Paula was now lying, sunning herself. She had shed her usual dress in favor of a swimsuit. He was dubious of where she’d got it and asked. The reply was that she’d packed it back in Twoson when Ness returned her to her family. Jeff, satisfied with the explanation, looked at the handful of shells and various bits of rock and algae he’d picked up. He sat not he warm sand and sifted through it all, separating it into little piles which he then arranged in rows. He examined the shells and began arranging them by shape and type, doing the same with the other various bits and pieces he’d scooped up. When he was done, he smiled to himself. Ness had finished swimming as well, and was buying a snack from a small snack cart on the beach. He returned and shoved a small bowl of what looked like very soft ice cream in front of Jeff and handed another to Paula.
“Ness, what is this stuff?”, Paula asked as Ness sat down with his.
“The guy who sold it said it’s, umm, ‘Gel-ah-toe’, I think was how he said it… He said it was sort of like ice cream.” Ness, as Jeff had come to find over the weeks he’d been traveling with him, was not the most cultured in the group and had never really left his hometown before. Jeff was able to get a chuckle out of how Ness sounded out gelato, and thanked him as he picked it up. He found that somehow, whether it was the hot sun, the warm air, or just the fact that they were outside, the relate tasted even better then any gelato Jeff had eaten before. They used to have gelato every now and then in the dining room at Snow Wood, so unlike Ness, he wasn’t unfamiliar with the taste. Ness and Paula seemed to be enjoying it as they ate happily, Paula in particular.
“It’s sweeter then ice cream, Ness! Heh, thanks. It’s really nice that you got them for us”. Jeff finished his gelato and stood up, sensing the mood in the air. He gave them a half-true explanation about wanting to take a walk, and took off down the beach.

The sand against his feet, the wind in his hair… He could get used to this. Certainly better then Winters. Half the time, his glasses would freeze to his face if he was outside too long, thanks in part due to the sweat he generated by wearing all those ridiculous layers of scarves, coats, sweaters, jackets and hats. Here, he had only to worry about his glasses sliding off his face due to sweat, not freezing to it. He kept walking, looking out at the surfers and swimmers in the waves. Some were in groups, friends or clubs, some were families on vacation, some were natives and most were tourists. As he walked, he found that he could smell the far-off fumes of grills cooking red meat, the sugary smell of the various sweets sold by beach vendors, and a distinctly unfamiliar smell that he later came to find was the local delicacy – Kraken Fin Soup. As he passed yet another vendor, this one selling some kind of cake, a sudden rush of wind, a crackle of energy and he was suddenly watching as a figure was running straight for him. He put his hands up and prepared for the figure to tackle him. Instead, nothing happened and he lowered his hands. The figure stood before, easily a foot taller then him. He wore some sort of robe, tied his hair in a long top-knot and appeared Asian. The figure looked at him and asked, in stuttering english,
“The one called Ness, are you him?”. Jeff stared blankly at the figure for a moment before answering.
“No… But, I travel with him, he;s just down the beach.” The figure raised an eyebrow, taking a minute to translate the words in his head.
“What do you mean by the word beach?”. Jeff looked over the figure again. His skin had the certain pallor of someone who came from a less temperate area. He smiled. He led the figure down the beach towards Ness and Paula and began explaining the new surroundings to the figure – as well as a certain time of year called summer.

The Sun was sinking past the buildings, creating splinters of light rays spilling across the beach. Summers had always been a beautiful place, but this evening seemed different. I had spent most of my day watching the happenings on the beach below, perched high on my spot at the west cliff overlooking town.

Now, thinking back, a lot of people as of late have been behaving rather…strangely. Always just walking around like zombies under some spell; talking about your average everyday stuff but not caring what happens around them. This only really started a couple days ago when a fat kid – and I mean really fat; like large enough to shake the small chopper he arrived in as he exited it – showed up and started making a ruckus around town. I stayed at my spot for a few days observing him and watching over my city at the same time. I knew if I waited too long though, something very bad would happen.
The feeling this beautiful evening was different. I had decided that tomorrow was the time of action. Tomorrow I would start my investigation of that kid, and if need be, removal of him. The rock was cool and the old blankets I scavenged where calling my name. I soon drifted off into sleep.

A strange dream soon crept into my mind.

I was standing alone on the beach, facing the ocean, and watching it calmly ebb and flow. From my left I saw movement. At first I thought It was a ship, but as I turned to look the mass rushed the shore and quickly disappeared beneath it. Was it a submarine? Why did it stick out of the water so far in my peripheral? I walked toward the docks, but as I started, my vision blurred and something seemed to eclipse the sun. I jerked to look up. As I looked, a blinding flash and terrible whirring noise attacked my senses.
I jumped awake, drenched in sweat from both the dream and the heat of the afternoon. There was lingering ringing of the explosion that occurred in my mind. A feint smell of smoke still filled my nose. As I sat back down to gather myself, I noticed the smell was still there. As I glanced over to the beach, the source of the confusion became clear. There was smoldering wreckage of some type of craft, right there on the beach. There were footprints in the sand leading up the beach to what looked like a group of kids.

They seemed totally unaffected by the wreck, just walking around interrogating the locals almost immediately. Most people, of course, still reacting in there zombified states as they had been. There were few however that would attack the kids! Strange objects accompanied them in attacks as well, but the children battled like hardened vets; showers of what looked like magic sparkled around them. I slapped myself hard to see if I was still dreaming. I really wished I was.

I couldn’t tear my eyes away and just sat there, watching them for hours. They moved throughout the whole city, searching hard for something. They even managed their way into the Stoic! They finally stopped at the cake stand. I loved that cake stand. The lady was nice and would sometimes give me free food. She talked with them for a moment. Then they paid for cake, laid out, and looked as though they were sleeping.

Now was my chance!

I quickly made my way down to the beach and over to the cake stand. I went to nudge the one kid with glasses, but the lady at the stand stopped me.

“They’ve had some of my magic cake, and wont wake up until its time”

Crap. The cake lady was acting like everyone else now, and these guys are out of commission for who knows how long. It’s got to be that fat kid’s fault this place is so messed up. I know I saw him go to the docks last, probably looking to buy a huge ship. Guy seems to think worldly possessions make a person, and those kinda dudes don’t fly with me.If I’m going to find out anything, I better head to the docks.

This was a shady part of town, and I only went there sometimes to trade for stuff with the foreign fishermen. I decide to stick to the beach and travel beneath the docks. It will be much easier to listen in on conversations without worry of getting attacked by the strange things and people that seem to overrun the place now. Walking slowly, and keeping an ear to what’s happening above me, I find something I wasn’t prepared for.

There, under the docks, was a huge cave! I have been here countless times during low tide, and never was there a cave. It looked as though something huge had smashed its way in, creating a doorway to a new world somewhere deep under Summers.

Wait…when was I here last? Why does this spot seem familiar all of a sudden?

THE DREAM

I frantically scramble around, looking for something to give me a bearing of where I was in relation to the beach where those kids crashed. After a moment I realize…this is exactly where the mass in my dream had moved to.
I plop down in the wet sand to really think.

So, this fat kid shows up. He gives me the heebee geebees. The city and its people start changing for the worse. I have the dream, which I see those weird kids showing up and what seems like fighting back against the weirdness. Also, the dream showed me this place under my city. This place seems just as bad as that fat kid. I wonder…did he do this? Is his plan to milk my city dry then somehow destroy it from beneath?

I slowly stand up, realizing, its time I go in there and stop that kid from doing anything else. I have no one to help me, and those kids on the beach aren’t waking up any time soon it seems. I glance around me, maybe there’s something to help me here. I see the remnants of what looks like a pole that once held a street sign. Heck, it’s better than nothing. There’s also a set of heavy fisherman’s clothes that had fallen through the dock. Lucky me.

The cave reeks of fish and methane. Whatever made the whole must have hit a gas main. I venture in, slow with my steps. If I slip and hit anything sharp, I can’t be of any use to anyone. I get about twelve feet in and notice the sand smooths out. It looks as though it’s been frequently pushed both ways.

Both ways?

The cave has been here long enough for huge machinery to be moving back and forth; possibly moving something in and out?

I shake of the confusion, realizing I am deep in the darkness of the cave. Luckily, I notice glow worms permeated the soil, so I stood a while and waited for my eyes to adjust. That smell is so strong but I still see nothing to cause it. I travel what seems to be about 100 yards, and come upon a blind corner. Even though the cave is large and now fairly well lit, the fear creeps in and tells me something NOT GOOD waits around that corner. I mush against the side wall and peer around the corner. The cave itself continues into the darkness, but the glow worms stop right at the corner, seeming almost afraid to venture further. My nervous giggle telling me I feel the same, echoes slightly.

I fumble though the fisherman’s clothes. Dang, all my pockets are empty. I pad around them desperately again and find a lump of something on my chest. Inside the hidden chest pocket, there’s a flask…and matches!

I gather myself. It’s now or never. I’ve come this far, and I can’t give up. I return the flask to the pocket, take out a match from the book, and hold it to the strike side. As I strike the match, I head quickly around the corner. I rush into the darkness with my feint light, only about ten feet when it all comes into view.

My match light illuminates the large dead end. A huge amount of fish lay piled in a ring. In the middle of the ring are three HUGE eggs! Sitting like fat bowling pins, these three eggs stood at my height and twice my girth. A slight green tint can be seen under their ultra shiny exterior.

A surge of emotions hit me. I was shocked at the site, but relieved I was still alone. I was angry that I hadn’t found that kid, yet ecstatic I had discovered something amazing. That’s when I remember the sand trails. They moved in and out. Whatever laid these eggs is one massive mama and might be back soon. I need to leave, wait far outside to see if mama comes back.

I turn to leave, lighting another match in case I missed something as I head back, when I hear several loud cracks, and the slimy sounds of movement behind me.

Here’s my writing submission for SummerBound: “Earthbound: DEAD HEAT.”

Twenty years after the Chosen Four defeat Giygas, memories of the past begin to haunt Ness. To get his mind off things, he and his daughter decide to take a vacation to the ultimate resort town, Summers, during a heat wave that’s been turning Eagleland into a sauna.

And for a while, it’s paradise. But something’s definitely ROTTEN in Summers…

Hope you enjoy!

Ah yes, a fresh composition. Hot off the presses, made just for SummerBound 2015. I wrote this in an afternoon. It’s probably not up to par. Anyway, it details Ness visting Paula on a dreadfully boring hot summer day.

Get ready for an instant memory!

Alright, here’s my submission! One could say it’s missing the summer theme, considering it takes place in Winters. During summer break in Winters, Jeff is allowed to visit his father for the first time in his life over the break. On the first day, Ness and all of his friends decide to come and visit him with plans of going all over the place during the summer. Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve written earthbound fanfiction. Enjoy!

“Have a fun time visiting Dr. Andonuts. Tell him that I said hi. Oh yeah, and tell him to come and visit us some time. I’m sure that he could help me with my science experiments,” Maxwell says. He waves us goodbye and I open the gate for the third time in my life. I’ve only opened it two times ever before. The first time I came to the academy, and when I returned to the academy after my adventures with Ness.

The adventure is done and the world has been saved, and now there isn’t too much left to do. Of course, I’m always trying to become a better inventor. I’m making better and better weapons. Tony was ecstatic when I finally returned to the academy. But, when I told him I was going to visit my father with permission from the Headmaster of Snow Wood Boarding House, then he was utterly heartbroken. So I decided that he could come along with me. He needs to have a proper introduction to my father.

And, of course, my friends are going to come and visit the three of us. Thanks to Ness and Poo having PSI Teleport, then we can easily meet up with each other. We have a whole lot of plans this summer. We’re going to visit Scaraba and Dalaam, and Threed and Fourside, and everywhere we were when we went on our adventure. But, this time, we’re going to try not to encounter too much trouble. The world has been saved, so everything should be fine.

Summer in winters isn’t very warm, especially since it was really cold here while the rest of the world was experiencing spring when the adventure began, but it’s at least not as cold. There’s still snow on the ground, but it’s more enjoyable then spring, and especially more enjoyable then winter here. And, after all, thanks to my father’s inventions, it’s actually really warm at his place. And he has an entire storage of donuts there.

“Oh, and Tony, please don’t do anything too crazy,” Maxwell notes before we leave. We say goodbye and then head out into the bare wilderness.
Sometimes I question why they built an isolated academy outside in this place where you won’t find anything, and why they built a store right outside it. No one lives in winters but us, a bunch of cave monsters, and Dr. Andonuts, my father.

“Wow, it’s been a really long time since I left this academy without being kidnapped to escape from it. I’m sure that it’s going to be fun. Especially since you’re here, Jeff!”

It’ll be awful when I have to break Tony’s heart.

We head along and eventually reach Lake Tessie. Calling for Tessie, she comes over and we ride across the lake, swiftly moving through the water. I notice Bubble Monkey watching us from a distance, amongst the trees. He was a great companion, even if he was only around for a while.

We eventually reach the end of the lake and then head through the cave that is now no longer filled with any monsters, thanks to the demise of Giygas. We easily and quickly reach Dr. Andonut’s Lab. Even so, Tony is scared of the strange sounds echoing throughout the cave and tries to hold onto my hand as we hurry onwards.

We soon reach the lab, but nobody’s inside. However, I notice that the Instant Revitalizing Machine is on. Currently, he’s working on an Instant Donut Machine, so that he doesn’t have to go all the way across the country just to get some donuts. I think it’ll be really useful for him. Suddenly, my dad emerges from the Instant Revitalizing Machine, and then notices us.

“Hey there, son! How’s it going? I haven’t seen you in a while. I mean, it hasn’t been 10 years or anything like that, it’s only been about two or three months this time. We’re going to have an enjoyable summer break,” Dr. Andonuts says. “Sorry that I was in the Instant Revitalizing Machine. After all of my hard work that I did today, then I figured I would need to revitalize myself before you guys got here. Looks like I did it just in time.”

“Dad! It’s so good to see you again,” I say, heading over and wrapping my arms around him. I’ve seen him so often since the adventure began. It feels like he became wrapped up in everything. After he was kidnapped and brought to the base of the starmen, then I was worried about him and Tony. But now both of them are fine.

“Did you finish working on that instant donut machine?” I ask. “The one that can automatically materialize a donut inside of the machine?”

“No, unfortunately, I’m still working on it,” he says. “It’ll be a while before that’s finished. You know, donuts aren’t the only thing that I eat. You treat it like donuts are my favourite thing in the world.”

All of a sudden, we hear a buzzing sound from outside. Soon enough, two loud knocks come from the door. Ness and Poo stand at the door, and Paula behind them. Even though it’s only been a little while since I last saw them, they all look different. Paula’s grown out her hair a little bit longer, and she looks more mature because of it.

Meanwhile, Poo and Ness seem to have grown a little bit taller. However, Ness is still nowhere near as tall as Poo. The age difference is the main thing, though.

“Hey everybody! We’re coming in,” Ness shouts as soon as the door opens. He’s as happy and upbeat as he usually is.

“Hello. Good to see that you’re all still alive and well,” my dad says, greeting everyone and allowing them inside. “I’ll go get some food.”

He brings a bunch of food, and along with it a small plate of donuts. I look outside to notice that there isn’t any snow on the ground for once. I suppose that the weather has warmed up a bit. Someday, I suppose, global warming will change the weather of this place entirely.

Everyone starts to eat, including myself, but Poo just stares weirdly at the table. You know, sometimes I wonder what the other people in Dalaam are named.

“Excuse me, Dr. Andonuts, but I am not accustomed to eating food like this. I do not like western food. Do you have any brain food lunches?” he asks.

“Umm, I don’t think that I have any,” Dr. Andonuts replies.

Ness goes over to his backpack and gets out one of the brain food lunches. Poo happily takes it and then begins to eat it.

“I brought one, since I knew that Dr. Andonuts wouldn’t have any. You can take this. Make sure you enjoy it. I don’t really like brain food lunches, though. I guess that our tastes are entirely different.”

“Hey, I notice that your dad has a second floor to this place. Can we go up and see what there is?” Tony asks.

“I suppose,” I reply. However, upon climbing to the second floor, we find nothing but an empty room with a single opened present.

“Oh yeah, I remember opening this present during the journey. But I forget what it contained,” I say.

“It was a broken pipe,” Paula says, walking up the stairs. “I remember because we looked through all of our packs before we tried to stop the zombies in Threed. Also, you repaired it into the Shield Killer eventually. Don’t you still have it?”

“Maybe. I’m not exactly sure. I’m sure it’s over at the academy in some random place. I put a bunch of stuff in the locker room. I might have put it in there. But I’m not sure,” I reply.

“So, how have you been, Jeff? I returned to Twoson. I’ve been having lots of fun with my family. I’ve also been trying to strengthen my psychic abilities, even though the journey is over. You never know, trouble might rise again.”

“I’ve been doing a little bit of the same. I’m trying to create better inventions. Tony is always intruding on my work and accidentally wrecking things though. Maxwell gives me some help. Someday I should introduce you to the kids at Snow Wood Boarding Academy. After all, most of them haven’t seen a single girl in their entire lives.”

“Yeah. It’s still the beginning of the summer. I’m sure that we’ll have lots of stuff to do. We’ll have to visit all of the places we went to during our journey. After all, all of the monsters are gone now. We could even safely go through those pyramids in Scaraba,” Paula says. “Also, I’m surprised to find that Winters is actually somewhat hot during the summer. I mean, it isn’t like summer anywhere else, but it’s still pretty great.”

We head back downstairs and continue to enjoy the food. Poo is still eating his brainfood lunch, and Tony and Dr. Andonuts begin talking to each other. Ness, Paula, and I begin talking about what we’ve been doing. All three of us had to catch up in school, and we got tons of questions from people, wondering about what we had done. Only a few people realize what the four of us have done for the world. But I guess it’s fine that way.

This is going to be a fun summer.

Without love, it cannot be seen.

When I think of summer I often think of traveling. My writing submission is a fan theory about Photo Man and what he did in the summer of 199x producing something we all might be familiar with…

Photo Man’s Summer
The Earthpack Backpack Company (EBC) has been notoriously known for their intense marketing techniques. Their most controversial practice happened in the summer of 199X when they placed tracking devices inside their line of yellow backpacks. The original intent for tracking was to identify the locations of their customers in hopes of capturing photos of their product being used by locals. Having advertisements of locals wearing the backpacks in their hometown and in scenes familiar to shoppers was the EBC strategy to hopefully boost its sales of yellow backpacks.
The Earthpack Backpack Company hired out a freelance photographer with the pseudo name Photo Man to take the photos of customers wearing the new line of packs. PM owned and operated his personal photography and media graphic design company called Fuzzy Pickles. He was hired out to make EBC’s name great and was given full access to their tracking and GPS systems as well as the company’s pilot and helicopter. Needless to say the EBC was very committed to marketing their line of yellow backpacks.
However neither the EBC nor the Photo Man took into consideration that some of their customers would wear their traceable sacks to such a considerable large number of locations spread across the four corners of the Earth. This was the case with an adolescent from the suburbs of Onett who proudly wore his backpack not just in his hometown but throughout the whole world. With the assistances of the EBC’s resources the hired on photographic genius was able to capture 32 amazing pictures of the yellow pack being worn all over the planet. This caused EBC to rethink their marketing strategy from solely focusing on the locals wearing their products in their hometowns to more emphasis on how their product can be used worldwide.
Eventually world travelers caught wind of this global photo collage that was being developed which lead to the Monotoli Travel Agency (MTA) initiating with both the Earthpack Backpack Company and with the Photo Man to collaborate on making an unprecedented travel guide that still amazes its readers today.
MTA’s vision was to use the talents of the Photo Man to create a product that would benefit both the new and seasoned traveler. Not just an ordinary guide but an in-depth travelling resource providing information on area location statistics, shopping, entertainment, dining, points of interest and much much more. They sought out to leave no stone unturned as they provided handy information for travelers exploring locations in Eagleland, Foggyland, Chommo and beyond!
Though their vision was huge through collaboration and hard work they were able to pull it off with great success. The end result benefited the Monotoli Travel Agency as the word got out about many exotic locations around the world boosting tourism to faraway places. Also the Earthpack Backpack Company had a tremendous boost in sales as tourists saw yellow knapsacks conveniently product placed on the 8 postcards that made up the cover of this amazing guide. Though the Photo Man received a huge monetary gain from his hard work snapping shots around the world, when he was asked about what he benefited the most from the success of this joint endeavor he humbly responded, “I am glad that my great photographs will always bring back the fondest of memories.”
Ape Software Development Team’s office located a few blocks away from the Monotoli Travel Agency in Fourside witnessed firsthand the huge success of the collaborative work that was done in order to produce such an amazing product. At the time Ape was currently looking for a fresh approach to market one of their new projects they were working on. Seeing the victory that MTA’s travel guide achieved, they decisively bought the rights to the guide in hopes to use it alongside their new project Earthbound hoping that it will serve to be just as fruitful for them as it had for others.

I enjoyed writing this, I made it true to the game and I also threw in a couple music references.

Ness and Paula were on their honeymoon in a foreign, exquisite country by the name of Summers. They had to escape all of the perils of Onett, their hole-in-the-wall ocean view, the crooked police force, the newest gang, The Jets, and the annoying, intellectual chatter of their handyman, Jeff. Where better to stay than the Summers Hotel and Resort? Ness set out the picnic cloth for Paula to lay the basket. They both sat down to enjoy the first of their many hot lunches, and ‘Oh baby!’ was it spicy! Paula prayed from the bottom of her heart that this vacation wouldn’t turn to the senseless beating of wild animals. But little does she know, that won’t quite be the case.

After paying $98 for two Gelato de Resorts, Ness and Paula return to their picnic setup. They sit down and finish them off. Ness and Paula’s HP were maxed out! They were both very tired of hearing this message every time they sat down to eat something. Why had they ever gone on that cult classic adventure? They could have very easily stayed home and played it on Ness’s SNES. They pack up their things and return to the new, red, two-seater bicycle that Mr. Polestar had given them as a wedding gift. But what’s this?! It had been spray painted with an Electric Blue color! Who would’ve done such a thing? Ness and Paula rush off to the Summers Police Department. Captain Feeble met them at the front desk in a panic. “Yes, yes, what is it?” Feeble panted. “Well, sir, you see, my husband and I are on our honeymoon, and we returned to our two-seater to find it painted a different color!” Paula exclaimed. Feeble seemed to be quite the dodgy fellow, he didn’t look like he could do much about this particular predicament. “Ah yes, we’ve had several reports. One of those reports concerns one of our own, actually. Erm, yes, yes, please refrain from leaving your bicycle susceptible to vandalism in the future.” What a useless git!

That was a waste of time to our heroic duo. They decided to consult the only man for the job. Our heroes stumbled into the alleyway, to find a shady man in a stand reminiscent of Lucy Van Pelt’s. “Now wait a minute, youngster! I’m back in business, and I could give you a great hint for just $75! You’d like a hint, wouldn’t you? To find the vandal you seek, you both should venture over to the Strip… Oops! I mean the Stoic, no wait that’s not right! To the Lazy Cowpoke Stop n’ Go!” So to the former Stoic Club they went. And as they made their way there, they noticed several vehicles with a fresh coat of blue paint.

The Lazy Cowpoke Stop n’ Go was even more boring than ever. Instead of watching a rock, they watched a limited edition EarthBound cartridge sit there for eternity, while talking in stereotypical country accents and drinking milk. “Nahw y’all see here, I say, see here! This hur EarthBowund cartreeedge is as new as can be! It’s just the bee’s knees, better than a grasshopper hoppin’ in the plantation! Would y’all like to look at it?” Irritated, Ness tried to speak up, but then realized that he’d forgotten that he was just another sometimes silent protagonist. Now was one of those times. Paula hops in to save. “We’ve come to see if anyone’s seen any weird vandals around.” The audience clambered on in their nonsensical conversations. Something caught Ness’s eye, and so he pointed to a drip of blue paint behind the EarthBound display case. Paula caught on and realized that they must create a distraction. “Hmm….” Paula thought to herself, but she couldn’t figure out the best way. Ness led her to the back of the room, near the fire alarm. “I see… PK FIRE!!!” Paula shouted. A flame erupted on the Magic 20th Birthday Cake and people started to panic and exit the building. As suddenly as it had arrived, the fire was exterminated with PK Freeze. Ness pushed the case out of the way, swiped the cartridge, and the two crawled their way through the opening in the wall. From the other side they could hear a whistle-esque sound. “Blew, blewwwww…..” They entered the opening in the wall.

After a relentless crawl, and a hastened paternal cellular call, they emerged on the other side of the tunnel. It seemed strange, as if it were an odd shrine. They’d seen something similar, around twenty years before. A man draped in cerulean clothing spawned at the top. Ness would have seen him before, but Jeff never fixed those darn sprite limitations. The man draped in blue was none other than Mr. Carpainter. Paula had tried to forget this bloke all her life; he HAD kidnapped her at a young age. How had he returned after all of these years? “If it isn’t Mr. Carpainter… Or maybe we should we call you CAR Painter!” Paula joked, but neither Ness nor our villain was amused by this abysmal pun. Carpainter was quick on the offense, he utilized a paint attack! Oh no! It permanently stained Ness’s hat! Ness used PK Rockin’ α! It didn’t work on Carpainter! Paula used PK Freeze β! 250 damage to Carpainter! Carpainter used a Crashing Bang Boom attack! The now-rusting Franklin Badge deflected the attack! 120 damage to Carpainter! Carpainter was defeated!

YOU WON!

“What a fool, committing suicide like that. They should call him Mr. Pushover!” Paula heaved with relief. Something awoke inside Ness. He realized that his adventures all those years ago hadn’t been a true waste. It was then that he met Paula, the girl of his dreams. He met Jeff and Poo too! He thought ‘I couldn’t do it but only With A Little Help From My Friends’. But they really don’t matter as much. Standing inside of the slimy, poorly decorated lair, Ness finally said something. “I know there’s a lot we hated about adventuring (those bum hotels, expensive gear, saying goodbye, eating Asian food, and risking our lives to save the world), but I wouldn’t go with anyone but you. Maybe it’s Because I Love You.”

Inspired by GPP #15 and its pizza/waterfall-related nonsense, vid and I took a silly concept and ran with it.

We’d like to present to you:

Luigi stood at the base of the falls, a fine mist floating through the air in front of him. It was really loud, standing this close to the rush of water over the cliffside. He double-checked the location that had been hand-written on the box. Grapefruit Falls. This was certainly the place, but he couldn’t imagine who’d order a pizza from a waterfall. He pondered the situation for a few moments, trying to come up with some way he’d be able to get to the cove behind the falls without ruining the pizza or getting drenched himself. Maybe if he got a running start and jumped through it as quickly as possible?

He burst through the waterfall, feeling the torrent of water attempt to crush the pizza. He nearly dropped the rapidly deteriorating box right then, his grip sliding as the cardboard started to fall apart in his hands. Luigi’s shoes sank into a patch of clay with a sickening squelch before sliding out from beneath him, sending his body slamming hard into the mud.

Luigi quickly stood up and tried to maintain professionalism, even knowing that his clothes were ruined. His bow tie drooped limply, and his red-and-white striped shirt would never be clean again. A sopping corner of the brim of his paper hat ripped off in his hand as he adjusted its position atop his head. His manager was definitely going to make him pay for a new costume. With a sigh, he announced himself. “Hello. Is it pizza you’re looking for?”

The boy just looked at him as the light through the waterfall danced across his smirking face. Everything about that grin said he was the one who called for the pizza. Everything about that grin said he’d deny any such thing.

Luigi was disheartened. Another prank call. “I can see it in your eyes,” he said, sullenly. “I can see it in your smile. You’re not going to pay for this pizza, are you?”

The kid, who was probably around nine years old and was wearing a baseball hat, wasn’t the only one behind the waterfall: sitting next to him were a few other kids about his age. The girl to his left was the only one not holding back a giggle– she nudged him on the shoulder, frowning a little. But the boy only continued to stare in silence, his not-quite wicked countenance seeming to drift slowly– almost imperceptibly– ever closer to Luigi’s own. A mockery of his entire career. His entire life.

The ruined box was sitting on the ground now. It was nothing more than an albatross around his neck, so why not just let it go? His name wasn’t really Luigi, it was Robert– but he’d been “in character” for so long that he had simply become this mask, this act which had once separated the endless deliveries from the rest of his life, such as it was. Robert’s eyebrow twitched for a moment, a brief display of rage before Luigi regained control. At least the hard plastic of his name tag wouldn’t be destroyed by the water. At least he still had that.

He looked down at the pizza box again, the smiling picture on it a soggy reflection of his own rapidly deteriorating persona. The kids didn’t want the pizza. Nobody would want the pizza now, anyway. It was soggy beyond edibility, the watered-down sauce running off onto the muddy rocks. What a waste.

Luigi grimaced, his bright optimism suddenly dissolving into a loathsome glare. He kicked the battered box across the muddy earth, chunks of pepperoni and cheese flying into the air briefly. Most landed a few feet from the boy, but a splatter of sauce hit one of the kids. The foreign-looking boy, who had until now been sitting silently with his feet in the stream. A sneer now formed on that kid’s face, too.

“I suppose you all think you’re better than me, don’t you? Because your parents are all rich, or important, or something.” Robert glared at the kids, and the girl blushed and tugged on the boy’s shirt again. “But you’ve never experienced what it’s like to fight off snarling dogs and thieving crows. You don’t know the suffering of traveling to dangerous places just to deliver a meal to someone who probably won’t even tip you for it. I ran– _ran_– all the way from Threed to here for you petulant–”

The words caught in his throat as his face contorted into another facsimile of a smile, eyes brightening again. His lips twisted out the words “Thank you for choosing Mach Pizza! If your order is unsatisfactory, you can send it right back!”

The boy’s smirk turned into a wide grin, and he looked over at the strewn-about remains of the pizza. The girl noticed, and stood up. “No, don’t…” she interrupted.

The last kid, a student at some boarding school, going by his uniform, also spoke up. “I agree. I think this time we might have taken things a bit too far. We should pay for the pizza, and a fair gratuity as well.”

The boy grinned madly, reached into a pocket of the backpack he was wearing, and rummaged around a bit. He pulled out a massive wad of bills, and flipped through them one at a time. There must have been several thousand dollars there! What kind of kids had that kind of money? And in cash, no less!

After the kid had finally counted through the stack of cash, he folded the wad back on itself, and held it forward. His fingers parted slightly, and the wad of bills tumbled out of his hand and into the river. The paper money was battered by the cascade of water falling from above, and sent briskly along its way through the valley.

“Niss,” the girl pleaded, her voice almost inaudible beneath the crashing falls. “The man is just doing his job. He doesn’t deserve this…”

Luigi didn’t notice the girl’s objections. His eyes were still focused on the river. His eye twitched. All of that money, gone. Why? What did these kids want? He didn’t understand. He’d been Mach Pizza’s best runner for over six years. He’d never been late to a delivery once. Indignantly– desperately– he grasped his nametag. The one part of his costume that wasn’t yet ruined. He ripped it out of his shirt, the metal clasp snapping open and taking away with it a sizable chunk of his striped shirt.

He hurled his name tag into the waterfall. Luigi could go chase the lost currency. Luigi had lost his taste for pepperoni years ago. Luigi had abandoned all hope of higher education, settling for a career in “fine Italian cuisine.” Luigi had ruined Robert’s life. But there was only Robert, now. Robert wasn’t getting a tip for this delivery. He didn’t care. He was never going back to that oregano-scented hell. He watched as Luigi floated away, never again to deliver another pie.

He laughed, stinging tears filling his eyes and mixing with the rest of the water already dripping down his face. “This is the only job I’ve ever worked. Isn’t that sad?” For the first time in years, Robert was aware of how silly the whole charade had been. Fake moustaches. Dumb hats. Those wretched shirts that never fit quite right. “I must look absolutely ridiculous,” he remarked.

The kids stared at him, silently, afraid to say anything, trying not to glance at the shockingly pale patch of skin that now peeked out from where “LUIGI!” had once hung. “I’d better get going,” Robert said. “It’s a long way back to Twoson.” He wiped his face on his sleeve. It was a rather ineffectual attempt to dry his eyes, but it helped a little. “Don’t give up on your dreams, kids, and don’t just smile and take whatever some snot gives you. You’ve still got time.”

Turning around, he suppressed the habitual urge to say “Enjoy your pizza!” before pushing through the pounding waterfall and into the bright afternoon. A cool breeze raised goosebumps across his drenched body, but he’d be dry before too long. It was a beautiful day.

“Yo, Mach Pizza, this is Jo– I mean, Vito. Sorry, I’m new. Deep Darkness? Yeah, I’ve heard of it. One large pie? Alright, that’ll be three minutes.” Click.

Thought I’d never make this entry. Enjoy, kids.

It was a warm summer’s eve down in Peaceful Rest Valley; the light of the moon dancing upon the river’s surface. The weather could only at best be described as muggy, and there was not but a cloud in the sky, showing off a beautiful display of stars above.

Along the riverbank, a girl, not yet past her early teens, sat, dangling her feet in the river’s cooling waters. Her companion had hurried off somewhere earlier, so she had been left alone with her thoughts.

Even if her first arrival here this week had been… less than pleasant, she’d remembered this place from her childhood. She often ran about here, chasing the butterflies, her mother softly calling out to her: “Paula, no persigas las mariposas”. Curious, she’d sneak up on one of them, rested on the rocks, wings glittering in the sun. As soon as she’d try to grab it, it fluttered back up into the sky, only barely getting to graze the wings with her fingertips. Somehow, as she touched it, she’d feel a strange sort of energy pulse throughout her body; as if once again full of life. A swath of fireflies blew past her in a glowing trail of light. One landed in her lap, crawling around a bit, and then left to join its compatriots as she watched.

Hearing footsteps behind her, she turned to see her new friend, carrying a couple of items of food in his arms.

“Here you go, Paula!” he rested the collection in between them. “Sorry it’s not more of a feast.”

“It’s… fine, Ness,” she replied, retrieving a small bag of peanuts from the pile, as he slipped off his shoes and sat by her side. He grabbed a small bit of the beef jerky, and for a while, the two just sat in silence, eating their snacks from the pile.

Eventually, Paula broke the silence by saying: “I used to come here when I was younger.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yeah. Me, mom, dad, it was our favourite picnic spot. Lot of these butterflies here.”

As she said that, one hovered its way towards them.

“Like that?”

Paula giggled in response, and let it glide it into her hands. The butterfly sparkled in her palm, feeling its power flow through her, and then fly away.

“Like that.”

Ness stared at her in amazement.

“I saw those things on the way here. When I-”

“Yeah, me too. When I touch them, I feel-”

“Like I’m alive again.”

“Yeah.”

They just sat there, smiling at each other. A cool breeze whipped around her shoulders.

“I guess dad’s been worried about me,” she stared back at the river. “He’s probably running about the town looking for me.”

“Is your dad kinda-?”

“Yeah. He’s kinda overprotective. I hope he’s not mad you’re taking me out on this adventure.”

Ness stopped. The smile fell from his face, forlorn.

“Mom…” he whispered.

“Huh?” she asked, confused as to why her comment had made him suddenly upset. “What do you mean?”

“She’s probably… oh…” he began.

He sighed, and stretched himself out on the riverbank.

“Ness?” she said, concerned.

He didn’t respond.

“What’s wrong? Ness?”

She looked at his face, eyes brimmed with sadness, and his mouth slightly open.

Paula thought to herself, trying to think of a way to cheer him up.

“Ness,” she went to lay by his side, “if you want, our preschool has a telephone, so you could call her if you want.”

He turned to face her.

“Thanks,” he said, smiling.

“You can talk to her if you’re missing her. And we’ll talk to my dad together too, right? I hope he’ll think I’ll be safe with you.”

“You sure he’s not gonna flip?”

Paula nudged into his arm.

“Hey! I was just kidding!” he exclaimed.

She laughed at him, covering her hand in front of her mouth.

“We’re in this together, aren’t we?” extending her hand out on the grass.

He took her hand in his.

“Together.”

Hey! I’ve had this down for a few days, so i’ll finally submit it. Sorry I’ve been gone for so long; life, ya know?
Anyway, it’s titled Rhythm and the Melody.

The wind swept the expansive valley, blowing the grass this way and that to a particular, smooth rhythm, only to pick up tempo or slow down as time passed. It produced no tune or anthem, but served as the hushed timing at which nature developed throughout the spans of life; a random piece that only echoed to those who wished to hear it.
Among the verdant fields three young children led one another under the evening sky, taking in its purple and orange hues that stood firm no matter how far they traveled. The first of the group was a boy of medium stature and unprecedented resolve. He never seemed to choose any set path, but rather crafted out of what he was given. He undoubtedly trusted that life would provide him with the bare minimum, if anything at all.
His dirty hat lay firm across his dark hair as his tattered shirt blew in the breeze, waving to a familiar timing that only changed on occasion, it’s bright red, blue, and white stripes taking in the evening sun and holding on to it like the keepsake that it is.
Behind the boy stood a girl of the same height, though of a lighter weight and slightly burnt skin. She wore nothing more than a pink dress and a matching hat embroidered with her name, both whitened and dirty from their long journey. The bows in her hair were bright but torn, though she still walked with a smile and the touch of the breeze blowing her dress to a rhythm all its own. Of the group she was the only one to notice any such thing, and upon doing so she realized that the boy in front and she could make a wonderful harmony, if only music were to accompany the beat.
Behind the duo, another boy walked solemnly, gazing at a large map that encompasses the lengths of his arms. Though thin, he carried the most of the group, equipped with a large backpack that clanged and rustled with every step, bump, and trip. His fair, pale skin was coated in bruises and scabs. The coke bottle glasses he wore yet hated were taped in numerous places along the frame and arch. Like the boy in front his shirt was worn and dusty, but it was coated in patches of oil and smelled of metal.
Awkwardly, he struggled to fold the map against the breeze but with one final triumph he forced it into tattered side pocket of the bag. He gave a short sigh of relief, and joined his friends in looking straight ahead. It had been strikingly quiet since they had left the blistering heat of the desert, which he had credited with the blissful breeze of the summer evening. Though as it continued, he began to feel as if something was going on. It was unlike his new friends to be so quiet. Paula had been talking miles around the concept of visiting the city; seeing the tall buildings and everything else that would’ve entailed. He had always thought of her as brave and adventurous, so such a thing fit her well. And then there was Ness, who just seemed to be okay where they were going, so long as he could have someone to talk to. He too was just as brave and courageous with these sorts of things, but both were now quiet.
The boy in the back removed his glasses and wiped them on his shirt, but only managed to smudge them even more while he talked.
“Are you guys okay?”
For an instance Paula and Ness snapped to attention as if they had been in a daze.
“Oh, yeah,” Ness replied, “I was just thinking about the city is all.”
Beside him, Paula remained silent, returning a vacant glance with the distant skyline and a helicopter that had been hanging around it like an insect for what had felt like forever. More than ever she remained fixated toward it.
“Jeff, you want to take a break?” Ness said in a turning glance, still only half present.
“Yeah, sure.” He replied, already struggling to remove the straps. “I need to look over the map, I wanted to find the fastest way in.”
Jeff lugged the backpack off his shoulders and onto the ground with a thud and a rattle as Ness and Paula both settled to the ground, grabbing the map out of the pocket and laying it across the ground. Nearby, Jeff found a number of stones that he used to weigh down the corners, each covered with small dots for whatever reason. He thought nothing of it, and within the instant he began surveying the routes and pathways that could be taken; the amount of which was now very little. From what could be seen, only a small number of roads actually led into the city from where they were currently situated, and with construction consuming many of them, only one major road could be used. As Jeff reached for a bottle of water, he wondered why this was.
“Why would any city be like this?” he wondered aloud, perplexed even more after repeating it.
“What do you mean?” Ness replied as he leaned his head back, “Is the city’s layout weird?”
“No. There’s only one way in thanks to construction,” Jeff said, “But that makes no sense. It’s a major city!”
“I don’t know. Either way we’ll get there; don’t worry too much.”
Jeff looked up from the map, squinting his eyes as he adjusted his glasses.
“I know. But, what if it’s has something to do with what you’re talking about? What we’re dealing with? This Giygas guy, you said he can control people.”
“Yeah, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he was in the city. There’s a lot of people; bad people. He’d thrive there,” Ness stated plainly. Yet a noticeable tinge of worry crossed his face as he now laid down, across his arms in the grass.
A moment of silence fell as Jeff looked off toward the city, drink his water silently.
“What do you think the city is like?” Paula finally mentioned, breaking not only the current silence but her own. “Do you think it’s as big as I would imagine?”
Ness sat up, concerned about the emotion in her tone. She never sounded like this before.
He picked himself up and sat down next to her with a smile, reassuring her of what they had yet to see.
“I’m sure of it! It’ll be rockin’!” he reassured, grabbing her by the shoulder.
Quickly, silence once again fell among the group. To Ness, she felt warm to the touch, her face seemed to swell red. A tear formed in her eye.
“H-hey!” Ness stammered, running in front of her view, shading her from the light. He picked up his bat, and in a fluent motion forced it down in front of him as if it were a cane. He stood for a moment, sorting through his mind for anything that could be of use. A song, a tune, a melody. Then he remembered.
He began to hum the melodies that they had collected so far, tapping his foot to the rhythm, matching the beat of their clothes. As he continued, it felt as though even the world rotated along to the melody. And then, he began to sing.
“I haven’t lived nearly half, of my life,” he sang, with a beaming smile, bat raised out in front. “Like most other adults that I-I…”
Before silence fell for a third time, Paula let out a small chuckle that became a loud laugh within seconds, as did Jeff, and soon as did Ness, all crying with small tears of joy to one another.
“You-you-ha, ha-ha!” Paula tried, only getting out small bits.
As night descended, the tent was assembled and a fire was lit. Beyond the white moon stood the marvelous, gorgeous stars that remained present no matter what.
“Even if there are clouds,” Ness commented, speaking quietly to Paula beside the warmth of the fire. She gave another small chuckle, looking toward Ness with admiration. Under the night sky, the city’s building tops ran a colder black, dotted with a spectrum of lights that decorated the sight. If you were to listen, you could even vaguely make out the sound of music and traffic, as if one were singing in the rain.
“I’m sorry about earlier,” Paula admitted quietly, staring at the city once again.
“No, it’s fine. I get like that a lot, too! Remember in Threed? When those people knocked us out I was nearly crying when they broke the door down!”
“But, this is different,” responded Paula hesitantly. “I’m just overwhelmed. I was the star of my town, every time I went out everyone was so nice to me and understanding, but I was always scared in a way. What if they never really like me? What if they only like me for my powers? What if they turned on me?”
“What do you mean?”
“I was only a little kid when it all started. I was afraid people would mistreat me for my powers. Hate me for them, treat me like a freak,” she finally admitted, limply prodding the fire with a stick.
Ness struggled to find any words for a second, he wasn’t sure how to handle such a thing. He was popular, but in a different way. His powers were new, he barely knew anything about them, save for the fact that his father somehow knew about them. He began to wonder what would’ve happened if he had them, especially with Pokey around.
“You know what, though?” Ness added, trying to get her attention with a poke on the shoulder.
“What?”
“They didn’t. You’re lucky enough to have a loving town that took care of you, and so what? Some people did something to you. You were awesome!”
Paula smiled, looking toward Ness with a radiant face.
“And remember when we took on that mole guy?” he continued, “You punched him in the face! That was awesome!”
The two laughed to one another, smiling happily.
For a moment, everything died down. Around them the crickets chirped, and a faint sparkle could be seen it the distance.
“Thanks, Ness,” Paula replied, “You’re always good at cheering me up. I know I can handle the city, and so can you. Besides, you have a loving mom and a rich dad, I’d say you have it better than me.”
“As if,” Ness joked, “Your dad’s home! He cares a lot about you, too! I never told you, but he spent an entire day roaming the streets crying your name when you disappeared!”
“Really?!”
“Yes!”
“Bu-but your dad gives us all our money!” Paula rebuked.
“True,” Ness scoffed, “But, listen. I’m sure everything will work out in the end!”
“And how are you so sure?” Paula questioned.
“That’s easy, just follow the blue birds and the breeze,” Ness finished, “At least that’s what my dad always said.”
And the fire flickered as the two sat close together, watching the grass blow around them.

I posted this in GPP 16.. . but it’s also a story of all the struggles of every recording. . I present the summerbound curse.
On the Summerbound curse, we had wrong names, lost audio, glitches where items weren’t stolen, a stall tatic that didn’t work, the longest stream with lateness on top of top of glitches, clueless Omni had some backtracking/ problems with challenges and last time, Kevin was getting distracted. Now it seems to be Rune has some twitch glitching, Buck has his stream crashing, the game has snuck into N King’s gameplay and Hyperbound had some slow mike along with the cloud being ignored, Vid had to fight over twice the normal number to get the sword of kings and he revealed the name of the player to the audience too, save file not loading, bad RG loading and mismatched control, while Absol also had some trouble by retrieving the melodys that were lost and put a big thing on BB Kang and once again BB Kong is late and for the final curse . . . Ann’s stream kept crashing mid-sentence
