What Does The Abyss Look Like?

I’m certain you’ve often heard it said:

NEVER GAZE INTO THE ABYSS

but what about your other senses…

What does the abyss sound like?

Does it sound like a sudden scream?

Or is it—

a quiet sob
muffled
by laughter
that keeps getting louder
and louder
and LOUDER
AND LOUDER
and SHARPER!
piercing-your-ear-drums!
and it HURTS
and it BURNS…
it fades
but it’s still there
you can feel it

What does the abyss smell like?

Is it a pile of sweaty gym socks?

Or is it something barely charred,
but the scent is getting stronger
you search,
but you
can’t find it
Where is it?
but you can smell it
Where is it?!
Something is burning
WHERE?
the smoke smells putrid
HOW?
like rotting flesh
but it’s coming from inside
from inside you
Where?
inside your brain
and you feel the bile
How?
in your stomach rise
and it burns your throat

You can taste it now, can’t you?

What does the abyss taste like?

You can taste the abyss on your tongue.

It’s sour, lingering,
but only at first…
the spice spreads,
crawling over your tongue
a thousand tiny threads
weaving into a river of lava
that burns down to your gums
and it all becomes numb
you can’t even feel your tongue
could you tell if you were swallowing it
would you feel it oozing down your throat?

What does the abyss feel like?

It feels like being picked last on the playground
It feels like you’re moving away
and all your friends will forget you
you won’t even remember their faces
and they will never call you
and you’ll be alone
you’ve lost something
and it’s never coming back
and it’s too hard to take
you can’t lift it above your head
it’s weighing you down
it’s CRUSHING you
it’s PRESSING in all around you

and it hurts!

and it burns!

and it screams!

and it stinks!

What does the abyss look like?

Syoko Hoshi (Japanese: 星輝子 Hoshi Syoko) is one of the characters available in THE iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls and THE iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage. She is voiced by Satsumi Matsuda (Japanese: 松田颯水 Matsuda Satsumi).

Self-Introduction
“Mushroom… Mushroom… Lonely girl, Hoshi Syoko♪ …Ah, yes, I-I’m here… Well, I-I’ve been here for a while now.. b-but t-to have your eyes on me, you have quite good taste. I’ll do it, idol or whatever. Fufu.”

Character Description
Syoko is an introverted girl with a passion for mushrooms (which also includes growing them). She is also awkward and lacks communication skills, and often stutters when talking. She only became an idol after being coerced into going to an audition to find less conventional idols by the Producer. However, her personality changes radically once she turns into an idol.

After training, she sports a total makeover, adopting a death metal look and becoming unhinged. Fans often assume that Syoko might have eaten too many mushrooms, which resulted in her erratic behavior. Although, some fans also argue that her personality actually remained the same and her erratic behavior is only an act designed specifically for her idol persona. The latter seems less likely, due to the fact that in Starlight Stage she snaps out of extreme stress during her audition to become an idol and slips into her death metal personality.

Trivia
Syoko was voiced on January 31st, 2014 through [Black Valentine] SR card in the original Mobage game.
Syoko’s drama track reveals that she often has conversations with her mushrooms.
