Mr. Saturn sprite When does music become classic?

How old does it have to be anyway?

I’ve been kicking this around for a while now. I tend to think of it based on the classic rock genre, one of my favorites, and think of it from there. I’m sure it could be different with different genres as the styles may change at different times, but I have mostly only thought about it from the classic rock perspective. I always kinda placed the line around the 80’s and 90’s, but what do you think?

To me, music doesn’t depend on age to be classic. Sure, there’s some really cool music in the 80’s, but there’s some cruddy stuff as well. Classiness depends more on how clever the lyrics are, whether the music delivers something new or does something better than other members of its genre, the beauty and/or the catchiness of the melody, and whether you can stand listening to it after the 100th time.
