So, I’ve been discussing stuff with various people, and a topic came into my mind. Our generation’s music compared to previous generations.

When I say this generation, I don’t really mean the jazz and orchestrated music made during this time, but the new genres made now-a-days. Do you think this generation’s music is better, or do you think that we’d be better off without the “horrible excuses for music?”

Me, personally; I love the music that was made before, like in the roarin’ 20s, with all of the great jazz, or even the classic 8-bit music in the 90s. Even the rock music in mid to late 1900s. All great music that took a lot of thought, and actually sounded great. Had meaning to it, ya know?

Now, this may be stereotypical, but the music now influences kids to do stupid things, and doesn’t even sound too good.

What do you think?

It’s not only the music though, but the way their attire is makes girls now feel like they need to be perfect. Most rap songs are about big butts and breasts and stuff, so when girls hear it, they expect to also have the same physical appearance to be “socially accepted.”

Though my knowledge of rap culture is not the best, I can say that I don’t believe that it’s helping the female’s struggle to be treated as anything other then a sex object.

tbh I think that most the popular music of today is over sexualized.

There were plenty of mindless, rock ‘n’ roll and jazz tunes that were super popular and didn’t take much thought or artistic design whatsoever.

Each generation has its crap and its gold, there are plenty of modern artists dabbling in modern genres that really put a lot of time and effort into their work. That being said, there is also a lot of crap, but it helps to put things into perspective.

I love anything to do with Damon Albarn. Blur. His solo career. But especially Gorillaz. It, as people have expressed before, shows what hip hop can be like if people try hard enough. In fact, music in general. Thus, not all of today’s music is crap. And if you’re talking about newer acts, examples include Bastille, John Legend, Lorde, etc.

God, I do not like Lorde. Queen Bee was tolerable when it came out, but I heard it too much. And why is her music always slapped onto every single commercial ever? All the songs sound the same! I’m sorry!

This is my opinion, but I don’t care for her music. As for trademarking, I think the whole trademarking a phrase crap is unneeded. I never once said the phrase she trademarked before, I only said it a couple of times whilst talking about it, and I don’t plan on willingly saying it again. Want to make a phrase popular? Make a song about it. The phrase, I believe, is used in one of her songs as the bass drop, or something? Idk, but if you really want a phrase to get popular, you can just make a great song about it and have it used quite a bit. Like YOLO.

EDIT: Did you know that Warner/Chappell Music has trademarked/copyrighted the Happy Birthday Song. Anyone who publicly performs it risks a fine of $150,000 to them.

lmao if you dont have good knowledge of a particular subject, how about you go ahead and just dont say.

That was a disclaimer, just because I’m not an expert doesn’t make me ignorant. I’ve listened to rap before, and I’ve developed views from what I’ve heard. So getting to say what I believe leads to others saying what they believe, which lets me sort of compare notes and become more knowledgeable. If I said nothing then I stand to gain nothing, as the conversation might have never been had.

Still not as flashy about it as- actually never mind I think I understand the innuendo of the second song now.

Whether it’s wrong to write/listen to songs about sex depends on ones own idea as to what moral integrity is.

All about the base is supposed to be a song that embraces the idea that "big" and "curvy" women are just as, if not more attractive then the thinner Taylor Swift types. However the message was poorly conveyed in the song and is more "insulting skinny girls" than "encouraging and loving bigger girls". I’m not a fan of the song as a song.

I think that the music we hear on the radio (PSI not included) tends to be the worst of the worst. For example, most country stations play newer country music that is essentially pop music with a twangy guitar in the somewhere and some southern accents.

But to each their own. I certainly like my share of "bad" music. I downloaded and five starred the opening theme of Catz for the DS.

To spring off of the worst of the worst thing, that’s what the radio is, except for classic rock stations or whatever. Pop stations play the same songs over and over, ruining the song for everyone. You would think they would sprinkle in a variety. Like Green Day’s Brutal Love, Imagine Dragons’ Warriors, or some other bands and musicians. It’s almost always music of the past six months, as well. It lacks variety. If they played a variety, maybe more appealing songs could be played.
