Ness x Lucas. Personally, I feel like this ship would be good if it wasn’t so over-sexualized. (Like some of the art I see of it is just nasty.) And if Ness was portrayed as being the supportive boyfriend that helped Lucas overcome his grief.

Professor Layton is an awesome puzzle game franchise with the world’s worst fandom. But also, your topic on Ness x Lucas proves my exact point on my issue with ships generally. It’s just concerning because it seems to be so easy for people to take things too far so quickly, and I just tend to naturally frown on almost every ship. But yeah, sorry if I came off like an ass.

I think that Pokey’s relationship with Ness (and honestly, anyone besides himself, while we’re at it) would inevitably be toxic and awful unless Pokey were a fundamentally different person. Him with Ness in particular would have some very uncomfortable dynamics. Pokey deluded himself into believing they were friends even as he actively tried to kill Ness and help destroy all of existence. He was also a jerk before the influence of Giygas as well, based on either the coffee or tea sequence. These delusions became so all-consuming that he devoted shrines and movies and halls to memories of Ness that were never his, creepily pining over the one thing he never could control, that all his power would never let him have for his own. That can’t produce a healthy relationship.

What is love, if not sharing food with someone, and then running away from that someone,
as they chase after you, shouting “That was my food, give me back my food”?

I’m not a hardcore shipper by any means. Honestly to me, NessPokey is more of a crack ship that I enjoy solely for fanservice. (And because I also have a huge bias toward Pokey) But I will take this opportunity to dissect Pokey’s character and actions. Yes, I do believe that he was a very different person before the events of Earthbound. In the opening sequence of Earthbound, he is portrayed as being cowardly, rude, and somewhat foolhardy. If he had a better relationship with Ness is debatable. One of the main arguments people make for him and Ness possibly being friends or on better terms comes from how he’s portrayed in Ness’s magicant. Whether or not this is how he actually was before or this is how Ness remembers him is again, debatable. Yes, he was a jerk to Ness I’ll admit that. But to what extent is the question? This chalks up to headcanons and such which, let’s admit, is what most of the relationships in Earthbound are chalked up to.

Before anyone comes at me with torches and pitchforks, I’m just talking about Pokey before the events of earthbound and mother 3. I personally believe that most of his evil behavior is due to Giygas’s influence, his own weak mind, and his disposition which made it easier for Giygas to possess him. I’m not saying that his actions are justified by this, I’m just saying that how he acts for most of Earthbound was probably different than before Earthbound. We’re also forgetting the fact that he was ABUSED, which again does not justify his actions but is also a major contributing factor as to why he turned out like that.
