So glad to see what it’s turning into! This is definitely a good way to go for the game. Paying homage to a game you love can be done without it being a “fan work.” I think that’s part of what Undertale taught us.

But I think fan work or legally distinct game, Oddity will always be our Mother 4.

I am excited since I was keeping up with Mother 4 since 2015 and used to obsess over it all the time. But do you think it will live up to the standards earthbound and some of the other indie RPGs, do you think it will be better than the official games. ODDITY reminds me of Heartbound, similar battle style, and look and feel in general.

They’ve said multiple times that they won’t accept any money for it, but I’ve started to question that idea ever since they mentioned the rebrand. Wasn’t the point of not taking any money about not profiting off someone else’s IP? If they removed everything that’s not original, why not take compensation for it?

Just do a dang KS, seriously, they’re easy and wonderful for all parties involved (…when done correctly…) There are a handful of members here that have successfully pulled off big projects with KS, so just pick their brain if you’re nervous (granted, those people are willing to help)

The KS wouldn’t be about who gets paid, but about funding the project from the point of the creation of the KS. If they create a KS now, it should be to fund the remaining development of the game, and not pay for bills of the past. Its “so this is the idea we had, and this is what we are today, this is what we need for what’s left, so who is willing to help us go forward with it? You are? Well here are some nice incentives for helping us finish this and make it real!”

That gives them the option to still maintain the “We are doing this for free” stance by not taking compensation from funds gathered, AND still provide funds for materials, marketing, out-of-house expenditures, etc.
