Schala Standing sprite Is Xenoblade 2 bad?

Please let me know before I sink 20 hours into this game.

I recently picked up Xenoblade 2 because I wanted a story-heavy game. I played through the first Xenoblade about 3 years ago and really loved it’s story! Alas, sofar Xenoblade 2 seems to suck. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not horrendus so far, but from what I’ve played (I just made it to Outlook Knoll) it seems like I just wasted $60. The voice acting is… just awful. Everyone sounds like they’re constipated, lightheaded, or really Manic. They didn’t hire animators to rerig the cutscenes so the mouths match the English dialouge. And so far, the story doesn’t intrigue me like Xenoblade 1’s did.
Am I wrong? Have I not played it enough yet?

You’re not wrong, and you’re not alone. Xenoblade 1 feel to me like a British sci-fi novel, whereas, Xenoblade 2 feels like it’s cringey anime pretending to be a sci-fi novel. Also, the voice acting on the original is phenomenal, while 2’s cast seems rather generic and forgettable.

If you’re looking for more of Xenoblade 1, I’m afraid you’re only good option is to check of Xenoblade X on the Wii U. It can’t hold a candle to the original, but it at least tries to take itself seriously.

Xenoblade X is the only Xeno- game I’ve played. I do reget selling it a very long time ago, but I overall couldn’t get into the game very much. It had the worst case of flappy-anime-mouth I’d ever seen lol.

I’ve been wanting to play at least the first Xenoblade Chronicles for over a decade, now. I once bought it on Wii, ‘bout a year or two ago, but I immediately turned back and returned it, for financial reasons. The Switch version is the best, isn’t it?

From what I’ve heard, the switch version is the best. It’s a bit pricey for a Wii game with somewhat dull gameplay, but the story is phenomenal.
It’s a good game to play while you watch TV imo. Of course, pausing for the cutscenes

It was only $60~ when I picked up and owned it for a solid 4 minutes last summer or so. Which is a hell of a lot cheaper than I thought it would be.

I’ve seen the New 3DS version at used game stores a few times, but from what I can gather, it’s not really worth it unless you’re already a fan who wants to own it more than once? Especially seeing as how the Switch version can be just as portable but a million times nicer, so like, what’s the point lol

My wife plays a lot of RPGs and the Xeno series has caught her eye a couple of times. She played through Xenoblade Chronicles X and tried to play Xenoblade 1 but bounced off.

Xenoblade 2. However. Looks… Hilarious. Like, from what I can tell (again, haven’t played it so I might be way off base) but it looks like the main female lead for this game is LITERALLY an object. Like, not not just an object in that she has no agency of her own and merely serves as a plot device that the male lead uses to drive the story forward. But no literally ACTUALLY a legendary sword. That is very very funny to me.

Like, I know Japan has a problem with feminism and female representation but they USUALLY try. Like unless the work is designed to be pandering to an adult male audience with the intention of being risque, modern Japanese creators typically DO try to create more grounded depictions of women. Like there’s usually an effort that you can see despite how successful it ends up being.
