Preet Poot sprite Patched - Still in Japanese?

sprite khysanth

I have a CycloDS Evolution, an ezflash 3-in-1, and a DS Lite.

I patched the Japanese ROM, got the “Boing!” success message, loaded it onto my CycloDS, and booted up my DS Lite.

But the screen where I name the characters, pick the text speed, etc. is all still in Japanese… what am I doing wrong?!

Nevermind. After a lot of additional searches, I came upon this:

      http://cyclods.theta.in/wiki/EZFlash_V_3-in-1#Running_GBA_games_using_Rudolph.27s_ExpLoader

Solved my problem following that step-by-step. I finally get to play the sequel to my favorite game of all time!

        Nevermind. Still doesn’t work. Ugh.

Have you checked the patch on your PC first, to make sure it’s in English there?

One thing some people accidentally do is run the patch program just fine, but then try to run the original ROM. I haven’t used the patcher program since the patch came out, but I do believe that in most cases after running the patching program there will be two ROMs, the original one as a backup and then the patched one.

I haven’t checked on the PC yet to see if it is in english, but I do see the original.gba and the rom (post-patch).gba both in the folder.

I put the rom on my CycloDS, did all that stuff with the Exploader, but still when it loads up it is in Japanese.

After some more searching, I found this post:

“Your problem sounds like a case of mistaken identity. Is the Jap. version of Mother 3 the most recent game you played in your 3-in-1? If so, use GBAExploader to erase the NOR memory in your 3-in-1, then load the translation with the CycloDS. That should work.”

I may have loaded the Japanese version of the ROM onto my CycloDS a LONG tim ago, before I actually got a DS Lite and a 3-in-1. I will just delete Mother 3 off of the card, use Exploader to clear the NOR memory, download and patch a fresh copy of the ROM and then just start is using CycloDS (w/out Exploader, which I believe is unnecessary).

Will update later tonight when I get home and can try this.

What you need to do first is get an emulator. After you do the patching process, try the ROM and see if it’s in English. Then you can tell if which side the problem is on: the computer/user or the DS.

So do that first. I think that’s what SaturnStorm was trying to tell you.

              Just got home.

Loaded it on an emulator just fine in English. Going back to work on the DS. Will edit/update this post.

Erasing NOR and throwing Mother 3 (patched and verified in an emulator) on there now. crosses fingers

Success! Thanks for the advice, everyone.

Here is the story for those in a similar situation:

I have a CycloDS Evolution + EZFlash 3-in-1 for my DS Lite.

Don’t bother downloading GBA EXPloader or anything, CycloDS can handle all of the GBA emulation on it’s own. What happened to me was exactly what was described here:

“Your problem sounds like a case of mistaken identity. Is the Jap. version of Mother 3 the most recent game you played in your 3-in-1? If so, use GBAExploader to erase the NOR memory in your 3-in-1, then load the translation with the CycloDS. That should work.”

I guess I had tried to run the Japanese version of the game a long time ago, and so that was stuck in my 3-in-1. I put a different GBA game on it, through EXPloader, to over-write the old Mother 3 (because I couldn’t just find a way to erase it). Then, I erased EXPloader and put a freshly patched Mother 3 back on the CycloDS. From there, I just ran it through the CycloDS’s normal menu like I would any game and it did the rest of the work (erasing the other GBA game, and putting the new Mother 3 on).

I hear that people (especially with the 3-in-1) found that the game would glitch up without using the exploder thing. You should check out the flash cart topic before getting too far into the game though.
