Cameraman 2 sprite A link between EarthBound Beginnings and Friday the 13th?

I don't know what this guy is talking about...

In his testimonial for the Encyclopedia MOTHER, sci-fi critic and film buff Akira Kagami makes this remark while listing off films EarthBound Beginnings reminds him of:

Come to mention it, Friday the 13th showed up somewhere too, didn’t it?

This is the only instance in which I have seen anyone so much as mention the two properties in the same breath. I have never watched any of the Friday the 13th films (which were six or seven in number at the time of the testimonial), nor heard of any comparisons drawn between them and the first MOTHER. Even after watching a couple of reviews to gain a basic understanding of their plots, nothing jumped out at me as a glaring similarity.

The overlap between the fandoms of these two franchises is probably small, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask this question. Does anyone here know what Kagami is getting at?

I recently finished Mother 1. I made a list of movie-similarities and didn’t include Friday the 13th. So yesterday I re-wached the first one and, beside it takes place in rural America and their characters are all young people, I can’t see any similarities.

btw, my list of movies:

- Close Encounters of the Third Kind (77)
- Poltergeist (82)
- Forbidden Planet (56)
- The Day the Earth Stood Still (51)
- the War of the Worlds (53)
- Metropolis (27)
- 2001: a space odyssey (68)
- Planet of the Apes (68)
- Stand by Me (86, maybe too close, more probably the book)
- Pipi Langstrump (69)
- Pollyanna (60)
- Rosemary’s Baby (68)
- The Goonies (85)
- Duel (71)
- Back to the Future (85)
- The Wizard of Oz (39)
- Alcie in Wonderland (51)
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (66)
- The Shining (80)
- Carrie (76)
- Lord of the Flies (63)
