ARTISTS, CHECK THIS OUT!:

If you are familiar with receiving a package from fangamer, every order has at least one fangamer pin. We want continue the idea of the packy slips by involving the community artists in a return of awesome to their fellow fans. The Artist Pin series opens up entries where 10 designs will be chosen by fangamer staff to become one of the free fangamer pins that will be distributed in packages over the first half of 2010. For each design selected, you will get a $10 fangamer store gift certificate and 10 copies of your pin design.

IMPORTANT STUFF (aka rules):

• The theme is the Fangamer logo. Your design MUST have the fangamer “F” logo in it as the main element one way or another (see samples below).
• Whatever style, it’s up to you! However you desire, computerized, handmade, drawn, rendered, etc., there is no limit, be unique and inventive, just keep it polite since it’s going out to all ages.
• It can be black & white, full color or black ink printed on any of these papers (no color ink on color paper printing). Check below this post for more details.
• No limit on entries! Do as many as you feel like, but make each entry conceptually different and strong. Avoid entries that have a difference, tweak or color change. If accepted, we can work that out later
• The design has to be legible enough to print on a 1” pin design. No super intense details or words.

• The inner pink circle: 2.5” H & W (570 pixels sq.), 600 dpi This is what is seen on the pin face.
• The outer circle: 3.2" H & W (750 pixels sq.), 600 dpi. This is what wraps around the pin body.
  *Please don’t design it smaller then size it up, we can tell.
• You don’t need to label any of it, we just want the original art as seen in the diagram.
• Post here for feedback. Submit final design(s) to [email protected]
• Submissions are due January 3rd where the top ten will be chosen and then produced.

I’m a bit confused about the color ink thing. Are those the colors that we are limited to?

Two things: first, we just have to supply the square image, not the circular ones with text, right? Also, the “No Colour Ink Printing” kinda confuses me.

Otherwise, this is a really great idea, I should have some designs within two weeks.

Here’s an idea i’ve been playing around with. I modeled it after the character naming screen in EarthBound (This is what it would look like on a pin face). I also might make two alternate designs of this based off of the character naming screens in MOTHERs 1 and 3.

One thing i’m still a bit confused on…when I actually submit the art, Do I just leave it as a square or make it circular?

Just checking that I have the rules straight and all. Would this be ok?

What a great idea! I love MPF’s and Steve’s work so far.

I’ve been playing around with some context-free art ideas in the last week, could come in handy. Do you want us to include EarthBound and MOTHER “idioms”, or just make it look cool?

Game related ideas or not, make what you like and/or make it look cool!

For the tetris, I would do a version with the F cuboid being filled with the different colored accurately shaped tetrads (L, T, square, etc blocks). the outside blocks I would lessen the color and prominence.

I hadn’t realized the logo was an F, either, until I read the OP. Now that I see it, though, it strikes me as a brilliant logo design.

I can hear the tetris song in my head now…. Not a bad thing mind you!

Good work steve! I would go another level deeper in tetrads as an option, exactly like the block number on your first one. This will allow you to avoid the black fill in the most recent one you have. the highlights you have going on are definitely a plus!

I literally spent twenty minutes on this – I’ll probably spend more time with the other ideas I had, though.

Here is my idea. I made this in my favorite computer graphics program: MS Paint.

Something about this just didn’t come out right… Ah well. Perhaps someone could give me advice on how to fix it up.

Steveman, I think that thing will have officially arrived if you get rid of the black outlines.

The PSD of this has the Circle Guideline things. I just made the canvas as big as it said,that’s why the design looks small. And this JPEG Preview messed with the colours (Holy Hell BRIIIIIIGHT) the CMYK looks muuuuch better.

Oh lord, I never realized the symbol was an “f”. I feel stupid now.

Here’s my design, it wasn’t hard making it but just experimenting to make the paper and the brushes!

it looks like a huge fangamer boulder just chillin’ where the beach meets the grass. what i would like to see is the cut-out of the “f” to be its own selected layer so it’s shadow is not the same as the one cast by the boulder itself.

a quick fix is to not have the overall cast shadow to have so much distance from the subject

i actually quite liked the colours
maybe i’m the one who’s beachdreamin :p

This was originally gonna be the MOTHER 3 version of my previous design, but it looked really boring so I messed around with it. I think I got a little TOO detailed, though. XP
