Hey, does anyone have any tips on beating Electrobeard? Specifically the second time around – I missed him and now I have to face his stronger form and he’s absolutely wrecking me!
In Satralia there’s a shop where you can buy Multi Bottle Rockets, they’re quite expensive but will surely come in handy, just spam them and he should go down hard.

Ive been having some problems with Abominiathan in Chapter 8. I used 4th dimensional slip to slip past every enemy until the next boss but for some reason, Abominiathan isnt a boss so Ive been stuck in that area. Any ideas?
For anyone lost in space, I used LMU2PNG to convert the SPACE map file (map0157.lmu) to, well, a PNG. Note that due to the monstrous size of space, the image is very large, and finding small objects (e.g. ships) can be very difficult.
Hey, I just literally created an account in this site just with a slight question:
So yeah, I’m in Earth at chapter 8 and I found this strange guy at the hospital and then he went with a lot of people, my question is if it’s a side quest? Like, you can’t go to the other town because the police blocks the way, but I have this theory that if you follow the strange guy you can go to the other town with Larice, can someone tell me what’s actually that event?
I actually don’t know. I opened my chapter 7 file to check it out and I found the guy and he did as you said, but I couldn’t find out what’s next in the sidequest. It’s definitely a side quest, it played Sidequest started sound effect. I’ll put a bit more time into solving this later.

Aria of Unease can be found in the Mars base (the one where Larice dies lol. You can’t actually access it after that happens though, so it’s a one and done kinda deal.)
Fringes of Hope can be bought from Dr. Yooghurt on Neptune.
A Magnificent Dump comes on that record you can buy from the starman in the cafe on the Uranus platform.

is also found in Cydonia. Check the supercomputer after Larice gives his exposition and takes the Apple. There should be an option called “eject disc” or something like that.
I think there might be an issue with my game. I got the Insignificant Item in Chapter 2 and have been checking the Uranus Orbiter for the Wooly Shambler that trades you it for the Ballpeen Hammer, but I’m in Chapter 7 now, have pretty much done all the possible side content up to this point and STILL I have never once seen the Shambler that gives you the Hammer. Is this intentional, is he just a rare spawn?
im trying to play on windows 10, the controls keep locking randomly how do i fix this? i cant do anything except for open the menu
Strange, that hasn’t happened to me. But this game also wasn’t built for Win10, so you may be experiencing a compatibility issue. Fortunately Microsoft has a way to fix this.
You’ll need to find the EXE file. This should be with the other game files. If you have a desktop shortcut for the game this will be easier to do, simply right click it and open the file location. Should this be the case, you can skip this next section, but if for some reason (like having it only in your taskbar but not your Desktop) you don’t have a shortcut, you can do either of the following:
If you have Cortana available, you can search for MOTHER Cognitive Dissonance or RPG_RT.exe, and select it to open the file location. This should open up the folder it’s in. Proceed to the next part under the next spoiler here.
If, for some reason, you don’t wanna do Cortana, you can also open the file by navigating to the following location in your File Explorer program: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Giant Space Pickle\Mother – Cognitive Dissonance” (without the quotations). If you saved it in another Hard/Solid State Drive, or chose to make it Portable with a USB Drive or SD Card, open the game files there instead.
Once you have found the game’s folder, you’ll wanna stay on the root folder, don’t open any more. Scroll ALLLLLLLLLLLL the way down, and find “RPG_RT.exe”. There are 4 files under this name, if you don’t know which one is the EXE File you should turn hidden extensions on (Go to “View → Show/Hide” and make sure “File Name Extensions” is checked off).
Right click this file. On the pop-up menu, select Properties. A new window should come up. Go to the Compatibility tab. If you’d like you can try the Compatibility Troubleshooter first. If you don’t wanna that’s fine too. Simply check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” box, and choose Windows 7. You can try 8, but I think it’s too similar to Windows 10 to try. You’re better off with 7. If that doesn’t work, lower it to Vista (SP is your choice, you don’t really need a SP though). If that STILL doesn’t work, your last resort is running it in XP Compatibility. If nothing works you may have a completely different problem, if you haven’t already then completely uninstall the game (through the Control Panel) and reinstall it from another mirror ONLY if changing it to Compatibility Mode didn’t work.
So after starting CogDis about… five years ago, maybe, and then getting distracted from it and forgetting that it existed, I decided to go back and finish it. And I did!
I don’t have much to say that hasn’t already been said, but I wanted to say something. I am happy that it exists. It is every inch a labor of love.
“What’s the point of being cool if you can’t wear a sombrero?”
Does anybody know what happened to the remake of this game? Im out of the loop so maybe it came out and I just don’t know?
The CogDiscord server is where you’ll find ~99% of everything remake-related. The remake discussion channel is locked behind a role, but just read through the rules and server guide and you should be good to go.
I just ran through this recently and am a bit floored that the game had somehow slipped past my notice all these years. What’s more is that even after reading some about it and downloading it and even started playing it, it didn’t really hit me that this is in fact a legit full-length original game until sometime in the second chapter. I can’t put my finger on as to why, but something about the whole concept just screams “small” until you sink your teeth into it.
That being said, there’s a part of me that’s glad it isn’t too widely known, because to be frank I hate the idea of demystifying the backstory to Earthbound. I have to compartmentalize the game into a “one fan’s interpretation” box in order to enjoy it and it’d be harder for me to do that psychologically if all the fandom embraced the game wholeheartedly.
Now with all that being said, the creators deserve all the credit in the world for putting this together, on a completely voluntary basis at that. Just think about all the countless ambitious fan projects that will forever remain hopes and dreams, and these guys did it and I hope they’re proud. If you’re still out there, hat’s off to you!
Is there a particular reason why Second Amendment and Memories Undone are missing from the Bandcamp OST? I was hoping to get higher-quality versions than the super-compressed MP3s in the game’s files. Second Amendment is particularly odd because that track was even in 1.0.
