As per the rules, players are not allowed to edit their posts. This normally doesn’t cause problems on its own, but when several people are active in the day’s discussion, posts can easily be misplaced in context by something someone else posted while you were still typing. (We call this being “ninja’d”).

In order to keep straight who it is you’re talking to and what particular statement you’re replying to, it is highly encouraged that whenever you wish to respond directly to someone’s statement, you do so by first quoting that user. This includes posts directly above yours.

Remember that you can always edit down the text in a quote so as to remove anything not addressed by your response. (But be careful about taking things out of context!)

Furthermore, it is possible to quote posts made in previous (even locked!) threads, with just a little bit of trickery:

Quoting a post in a different (locked) thread:

First, go to the post you’d like to quote and click on the Permalink button in the bottom right:

In the URL bar of your browser, highlight the numbers stuck to the end of the URL, representing that particular post, and copy them:

Now, in the post you’re writing, create a quote tag manually using those numbers, as well as the username of the person you’re quoting, and copy/pasting the text you want to quote:

[quote=2094936;The Narrator:]If you have any questions regarding the rules or your character role, please PM The Narrator.[/quote]

If done correctly, you should end up with a functioning quote that links back to the post:

If you have any questions regarding the rules or your character role, please PM The Narrator.
