What Is EarthBoundX?

EarthBoundX is a Win32/DirectX game based on Nintendo's EarthBound TM for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System®. However, it is not a Role-Playing-Game (RPG), rather, it is a clone of the classic Arkanoid and Breakout games.

What sets EarthBoundX apart from these two games is the variety of levels and enemies, the EarthBound theme of the game, and the ability to create new levels with different graphics and sounds.

EarthBoundX closely follows EarthBound's story. In the first stage, Ness must fight off a group of Runaway Dogs, Spiteful Crows, and Coil Snakes that have surrounded his house.

In the second stage, Ness must defeat Frank Fly and his gang known as the Sharks. He must also destroy Frank's monstrous creation: Frankystein Mark II.

There will even be bonus stages in which the goal is to score the most points and collect the most power-ups within a time limit.

Later in the game, the player will be able to choose which character to use from the four main heroes: Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo. Each will have advantages and disadvantages, and each will be able to use a special power unique to that character.

EarthBoundX will have between 35 and 40 levels. Most levels will have unique enemies, who will in turn have unique behavior. Enemies will also have differing amounts of Hit Points (HP), thereby allowing some enemies to be defeated more easily than others.

EarthBoundX will contain graphics and sounds from EarthBound, and will use MIDIs created by a number of EarthBound fans.

EarthBoundX doesn't stop there, though. It will allow players to create their own levels, complete with custom backgrounds, sprites, sound effects, and background music. These levels can then be given to other EarthBoundX players to enjoy. Users can create entire new games based on anything they can imagine, such as a set of levels based on Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, or Super Mario World.

With EarthBoundX, there are infinitely many possibilities.
