Oto no Ishi, which in translation means Sound Stone, was formed by REDALiCE and Alabaster. In this second album Thanatos has joined on to add some tracks to the mix. And there is a special guest track by "Dr. Pig Nose". The album jacket design and sprites are once again done by qzna.
Oto no Ishi 2 is the second album of Mother techno club remixes. This time around the 14 tracks are all individual and not strung together for one mega mix. The album is about an hour long and all the remixes are from Mother 2 and 3 (but mostly 3). This is not an officially licensed album by Shigesato Itoi or Nintendo. However, it can still be purchased from Japanese online music stores. It is common for Japanese artists to make remixes and sell them for small profit. However, the artists give credit to the Mother series and past albums for their work.
This is Oto no Ishi's biggest album yet. With the addition of new artists there was also a bigger effort made to make themselves known and to appeal to fans in the process. The album's website is a compete parody of Shigesato Itoi's own Mother 3 World. Like Itoi, once a week they would release a "present box" filled with info, mp3 samples, artwork and more about Oto no Ishi 2 leading up to its release. Along with the album came the Oto no Ishi Franklin Badge (fake). And in the album's book there are personal bios for all the artists and an interview between REDALiCE and qzna as they discuss the Mother series. No word on another album coming in the future. But you can be sure that if there ever is Mother 4, Oto no Ishi will be there to techno remix it.
